This slap has echoed around the world, and now come the consequences: Will Smith was banned from the Oscars for 10 years.
Sorry, folks. Just as much as you, we don't really want to hear or read anything about this topic anymore, but hey: there's some big news. If you can read and have been paying attention to the headline, you already know that Will Smith has been banned from the Oscars for a whopping 10 years. Why?
Do we really have to tell you why? Because he slapped the living crap out of Comedian Chris Rock on-stage at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27. That's why. Now, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ (AMPAS) Board of Governors have just decided that his behavior must have consequences.
Will Smith Gets 10 Year Oscar Ban
So today, a virtual meeting concluded that Will Smith's actions at the award show were "unacceptable and harmful" and have therefore suspended him from attending the Oscars for a staggering 10 years. That's a whole decade, guys! Here's what AMPAS president David Rubin had to say about these board's decision:
“The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,”
A few days ago, Will Smith himself resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and had issued an apology to everyone involved. After this resignation, he lost his rights to vote for the awards... now he is not even allowed to attend the show until 2032. What one slap can do to a man.
But that doesn't mean you won't be able to see Will Smith anywhere in the meantime. Take a look at Elden Ring for example, where you can slap your way through the game as Will Smith.
