Google is increasing the price of YouTube Premium and YouTube Music. It was somewhat predictable, given that both Spotify and Apple Music recently raised their prices as well. But the increased price for YouTube Premium is surprisingly more substantial.

Price Increase For YouTube Premium And YouTube Music

The prices for YouTube Music only increased from $9.99 to $10.99 which seems reasonable considering the competitors like Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music had all increasing prices over the last year. But the price of a YouTube Premium membership is increasing by a whopping $2 as reported first by 9to5google. A YouTube Premium subscription will now cost you $13.99 a month, whereas before it was only $11.99 a month.

“We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium subscribers in the US to continue delivering great service and features. We believe this new price reflects the value of YouTube Premium which allows subscribers to enjoy ad-free YouTube with background and offline play and uninterrupted access to over 100M songs with the YouTube Music app.”- YouTube Spokesperson

If you should subscribe to YouTube Premium via the iOS app, it will be $18.99 a month. YouTube Premium allows you to watch videos ad-free while supporting the creators and the useful features of audio-only playback for videos and downloads for offline access to name the most popular advantages of Premium.

Those who already have a subscription to YouTube Music or YouTube Premium will receive an email to explain the changes and will have to pay the new prices with their next billing cycle. Only those subscribers who have been there from the beginning with YouTube Red (or Google Play Music) will get three months with their current rate until they too have to pay the new, higher price.
