Robert Pattinson's original Batman voice was apparently incredibly, unbelievably awful. Thank goodness he changed it...
So, Robert Pattinson's pretty great isn't he? He has a very pretty face and very pretty figure, but his voice? Well, let's just say that - at least when he began filming his Batman debut - it wasn't so pretty. Here at EarlyGame we value prettiness, and so it is with great reservation and sadness that we deliver this news to you. Mr. Pattinson, please don't fork this up.
In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Robert Pattinson - the 35-year-old ex-Twilight actor - revealed that his original Batman voice was "absolutely atrocious". It seems that this poor bloke tried his hand at the deep, booming voice that is usually associated with this billionaire baddy battler. It's not so surprising, the guy was in Twilight.
Now, more than ten years after the end of the Twilight Saga, those old-school jokes just don't really hit anymore. Over the last decade, Pattinson has become a big Hollywood name, starring in films like 2020's Tenet, Inception, Good Time, and The Lighthouse.
The guy was literally named one of Time Magazine's top 100 most influential people in the world. This one, though, we're a little sceptical about. Most influential? Alongside, you know, Obama, Putin, Trump, Boris Johnson, Xi Jingping, Tim Cook, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk. For goodness sake, people, these lists make no sense.
Sorry, that was off-topic. Here's what Pattinson said in the Jimmy Kimmel interview:
Everyone does this kind of gruff, gravelly thing... and I'm like, 'I'm going to do the opposite, I'm gonna go really whispery.' I tried to do it for the first two weeks, and it just [sounded] absolutely atrocious, and they told me to stop doing it
Thank you, Mr. Pattinson, for sparing us a... whispery Batman? That actually sounds pretty funny, if we're honest with you. Nonsensical, but funny. I mean just imagine Batman coming up behind the Joker and whispering "I'm the Batman" to get his attention. The whole thing would be absurd, like right out of a forking Edgar Wright movie!
It seems that they are going down that "I'm a really, really serious billionaire white man" angle, almost a Netflixification of Batman, but that's no surprise. Christian Bale did it well, Ben Affleck... happened... and I am pretty optimistic about Robert Pattinson. Seriously, though, does everything have to be all gritty and dark and stuff? People realise that the world is more than blood, gore, monsters, money, nasty people, depression, anxiety... okay, yeah, going a little too deep here.
Moving swiftly on, the rest of the Kimmel interview is actually super nice. Watch it:
There you have it: a pretty darn charming interview with Robert Pattinson on Jimmy Kimmel's news-opinion-show-thingy. Boy, American TV Hosts really like the sound of their own voice, don't they. Then again, I have been rambling for like five hundred words about pretty much nothing so... Yeah, did you know that Tom Holland stole the fight moves in his new Uncharted movie from the video games? Pretty cool, hey?
Oh yeah, you're here for Batman not Uncharted. Shame on you. Sorry, I'll stop it with the insults. Here's more Pattinson: "It seems that the more you embody the suit, the more you embody the character; it just started to come out quite organically." So what I've done here is a clever journalism trick: omitting the bit where he actually explains what he's talking about. Make what you will of that quote, it could mean so many different things. I'm going to go and eat a pizza now, cheerio...
