In a recent paper from the Ministry of Economic Development, Russia's plans to legalize software piracy were revealed. These are only plans, but they look like they'll go into effect soon. Here are the details.
Russia are going to fight back by allowing their citizens to pirate video games and other software. It sounds mental, but it could be a good way to keep the populace happy while they're being deprived of foreign goods. Here's everything we know about their plans.
Russia's Plan To Legalize Piracy
Russia's Ministry for Economic Development have put together a plan that would legalize software piracy, so long as the copyright was owned by an individual or company from one of the countries imposing sanctions. The plan includes hundreds of possible solutions to Russia's current economic crisis, but we're talking specifically about point 67.3 from the Priority Action Plan for Ensuring the Development of the Russian Economy in the Conditions of External Sanctions Pressure. Here's exactly what they intend to change:
Cancellation of liability for the use of software (SW) unlicensed in the Russian Federation, owned by a copyright holder from countries that have supported the sanctions
Decriminalization might be a more accurate way to describe the change, but either way, this is surely going to come as fantastic news to Russian gamers. Perhaps they'll be able to relive the glory days of piracy, when you could get pretty much whatever you wanted without a fear of ever having to pay for it.
But what would you download? If you were in Moscow right now and just heard the news? There are lots of new games to choose from this month...
