Mindy Kaling has been cast as the next Velma in an upcoming Scooby-Doo series. She seems like the perfect casting - but she's also not white, unlike previous Velmas, and this disqualifies her from the role according to some individuals. Are you racist? Maybe you've got a particular problem with the South Asian community? If so then we can advise you not towatch the upcoming HBO spinoff of Scooby-Doo. The children's franchise got itself in serious trouble (with morons) recently, when it was announced that Velma would be played by Mindy Kaling, better known as The Office's Kelly Kapoor. With the apparent genocide of white culture well underway, one would expect these guys to have more pressing concerns than the casting of a children's television show, but I suppose they've opted for a 'no stone left unturned' approach.
The Reaction To Kaling's Casting In Scooby-Doo
Let's be clear up front, and re-iterate what Kaling herself said: the vast majority of respondents on Twitter were happy for the actress, it was (as always) a minority that took issue with the casting choice.
Negative responses ran the full gamut; from those who were merely upset that it 'wasn't the Velma they imagined in their head' (don't ask), to those who were in violent opposition. Perhaps the most humorous responses were from people mourning this choice as though it were the death of culture:

In good cheer, luckily. Kaling found it ridiculous that this had become an issue, and rightly so, commenting in a later interview:
[Velma's] so smart and I just couldn't understand how people couldn't imagine a really smart, nerdy girl with terrible eyesight who loved to solve mysteries, could not be Indian. There are Indian nerds. It shouldn't be a surprise to people
Kaling was a fantastic pick for Velma. And she would've gotten away if it weren't for those meddling racists!
