Space Jam 2 is the talk of this summer for basketball/Disney fans. The film's director Malcolm D. Lee is already giving a possible sequel some thoughts and has an actor in mind. Could we see Dwayne Johnson is Space Jam 3?

Space Jam 2 Director Wants The Rock in Space Jam 3
Space Jam: A New Legacy hits cinemas today, July 16. That does not stop its director from dreaming of making another movie within what has now become its own series. Though A New Legacy itself is nothing more than a remake of an old classic. Malcolm D. Lee knows the deal all too well: if your movie makes a lot of money, you get to make a sequel.
Lee is thinking big, too. Not even metaphorically. The original Space Jam starred 6'6" Michael Jordan. Space Jam: A New Legacy is headlined by 6'9" LeBron James. For the third movie, Lee is looking at 6'5" Dwayne Johnson. The only difference between him and the other two, is that he is not a basketball legend. Lee feels he can get away with that. Here's what he had to say on the possibility of casting The Rock in Space Jam 3:
I never say never. It's all going to be about whether the fans respond to this positively. But I think the bar has been set so high in terms of the first one with this global iconic superstar in Michael Jordan, and now the same global iconic superstar in LeBron James, who transcends sports. Who is that next person to put into that universe? And then you've got to find a script and story that's good enough to not repeat what's been done but will capture the spirit of it and keep it going.
The only issue in Lee's wheel could be the disastrous first impressions for A New Legacy. It's just the first day of release, but the movie holds a horrendous 3,6/10 rating on IMDB, which indicates that either Michael Jordan fanatics review-bombed it, or it's just very bad.

We certainly don't exclude the former possibility. Sports fans have their own way of doing things. However, the latter is also possible. Still, Disney aren't looking for critical praise. They want cash dollars, so as long as Space Jam 2 does well in the box office, Malcolm D. Lee could get his wish.
