Have you heard about YouTube Shorts? That's what we're asking and answering today! So, what is this new app, and why should you give two sh*ts about it?
In short, it is basically TikTok but made by YouTube. You know YouTube, right? The biggest and most popular website on the planet...
Does YouTube Shorts Have What It Takes to Challenge TikTok?
YouTube Shorts wants a piece of the TikTok pie. However, TikTok is fire - it’s the millionaire maker of young influencers and the easiest way to go viral in 2021. Since the TikTok ban-scare has pretty much departed with the orange-haired Oompa Loompa Donald Trump... can I get a collective, hell ya? It looks like TikTok is here to stay in western markets for now. Sorry India, but TikTok is still banned there!
Regardless of TikTok's success and domination in the space, it still hasn’t stopped companies from developing their own copies of it: Instagram Reel, Triller, and now YouTube Shorts.
The layout of the app looks clean and simple:
YouTube describes its new app as:
“Shorts is a new way to express yourself in 15 seconds or less, and our team is focused on building its foundation across three main areas: A multi-segment camera to string multiple video clips together, the option to record with music from a large library of songs that will continue to grow, speed controls that give you the flexibility to be creative in your performance, and a timer and countdown to easily record, hands-free.”
YouTube Shorts can be accessed via the YouTube app and it looks like a copy of the TikTok app in many ways.
YouTube Shorts is a game-changer. It is probably the only other app that can challenge TikTok’s dominance in the short video market, but it seems a bit late to the game.Whether YouTube Shorts rises or falls, is really hard to predict at this point. We are left asking does YouTube Shorts even stand a chance?
