Phase one group winners Cloud9 were hit by Team Envy in the opening game of Flashpoint Season 1 phase two. That’s Envy’s first win after they finished bottom of their phase one group where they were forced to play with a stand-in.
Tables turning at Flashpoint Season 1
Cloud9 were the only undefeated team left in Flashpoint Season 1. After winning their phase one group with three wins and zero losses, they were favored to beat the winless Team Envy. There was one key difference, though. Envy had gotten Kaleb “moose” Jayne back.
The Canadian was struck with visa issues that prevented him from taking part in the first stage of the season. His return, while not reflected by the leaderboard, sprung Team Envy enough to get on over C9. Wins on Dust2 and Train were enough to negate a calamitous Overpass and suddenly Envy are in the power position in Group A.
In that same group HAVU continued their fine form from phase one with a 2-0 W against Copenhagen Flames. Denmark did better in Group B where MAD Lions occupied first place with a clean 2-0 over Chaos Esports Club. FunPlus Phoenix will need to wait a while longer for their first CS:GO win as a franchise. The org’s new American roster could not get over the hump vs. c0ntact Gaming and lost 1-2.
Dignitas’ struggles are extending into the second group phase. The veteran crew lost its third match in a row overall, this time 0-2 to Gen.G. Made in Brazil made up for their ESL Pro League Season 11 misfortunes with a winning start to their Group C campaign – 2-0 vs. Orgless.
Play resumes today with the second round of matches in Group A. Team Envy meet HAVU in the winners’ clash while Copenhagen Flames will try to snatch their final chance to win a game in Flashpoint Season 1 when they face Cloud9.
