FIFA 21 is and remains the hottest game of the hour. With the next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on the doorstep, the question arises as to when the upgrade will finally hit the pitch. This is exactly what EA Sports has finally revealed.

Since the beginning of the month, FIFA 21 has dominated the worldwide gaming charts. During the announcement, EA Sports revealed a next-gen upgrade for PS5 & Xbox Series X - now we finally know when it's coming.

FIFA 21 Release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

Gaming fans will have to wait just under three weeks until the next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft are released. Surprisingly FIFA 21 will not be upgraded for the release. As EA Sports has now revealed, FIFA will fans have to wait until December 4. That's when FIFA 21 will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. Don't worry in the meantime it is possible to play the current console version on the new hardware thanks to backwards compatibility.

Do technical improvements simply need more time? Rather unlikely. Does EA Sports want to take a stronger Christmas sale with the additional waiting time? Probably.

The Improvements of FIFA 21 on PS5 and Xbox Series X

To make the additional delay really worthwhile, EA Sports equips FIFA 21 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with additional technical improvements, which are specially tailored to the more powerful hardware. These include:

  • Support for the haptic feedback of the PS5 DualSense controller
  • Significantly faster loading times
  • Improved illumination, rendering, and animations
  • Humanization away from the ball
  • Improved audio effects

EA Sports has not yet shown how exactly FIFA 21 will look like on the new console generation. At least all contents from the popular FUT mode can be taken over into the latest version.

Besides FIFA 21, Madden NFL 21 (check out our review) will also get a technically improved next-gen offshoot thanks to Dual Entitlement. NHL 21 on the other hand will, unfortunately, go out empty.
