Even though 4-3-3 was the best formation in all previous versions of FIFA, things have changed. The famous 4-3-3 can't be used in FIFA 21 because the game mechanics changed and you will definitely need more strikers. So how do the FIFA pros handle the new meta?
Don't get us wrong, the number 3 represents three strikers but you actually only get one because two of them play as wings. With that in mind, which formation should you use to get the best results? Keep reading to find out!
FUT 21 Meta Formation: 4-2-3-1
Currently, the most meta formation in FIFA 21 is undoubtedly 4-2-3-1. It is currently used by almost all professional players. But why is that? Here's why: this is the most stable formation and the only setup where you can attack in a four-striker formation. Even one of your CDMS can join the attack which makes it a 5-striker formation!
But that's not all – 4-2-3-1 is also great for defending as you defend like a 4-5-1 formation. Your two CDMS can act as defenders and if the opponents get past them, they still have two more CB to challenge.
Defense Tactics
Don't get too aggressive in defense. Keep your defensive style at the minimum to maintain stamina and allow your players to move naturally. The defensive width should be narrow, closer to the keeper, so keep that at 4 or 5, don't go any further.
If you play against an opponent who likes to play long balls on wings, you can manually change it to 6 or 7. The depth should be reduced to 3 or 4 to maintain stability and keep your defenders closer to the goal. This version of FIFA allows defenders to block more shots and it is always useful to have them in the box. On top of that, your CDMS will be closer to help with the defense.
Offense Tactics
Attacking should be on the other extreme, at least with the 4-2-3-1 formation. Use long balls for offensive style because you will have more players running forward which will result in more attackers in every attack.
It is also useful for counter-attacks as you can react quickly and seize the opportunity when it presents. Leave width and players in the box at default settings to maintain stability. As for the corners and free-kicks, it is best to keep those at 1 just to be safe.
