It feels like simply playing your favorite games becomes more and more difficult as time passes. Once upon a time, we bought a game and we played the game. The entirety of it. That's it. Not any longer. So, what would you need in order to play FIFA 21 normally on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S? Do you need a PS Plus or an Xbox Live Gold subscription? You're about to find out, buddy.

By the tone of the intro you probably already feel where this is going. Playing the full version of FIFA 21 on next-gen consoles isn't going to be as easy as clicking a single button.

Do You Need PS Plus/Xbox Live Gold to Play FIFA 21 on PS5?

No aaand yes. You don't need either to play FIFA 21 on the console. At least for the offline parts of the game. If you only wish to play career mode and don't need any of that online rubbish, then you're good to go.

However.

If you are among the millions upon millions that want to engage in online play in unpopular modes such as FIFA Ultimate Team you will have to cough up some cash. That's because you won't be able to play FIFA 21 online without the corresponding subscription.

If you've bought a PS5, you'll need to get PS Plus. If you're an Xbox Series X|S owner, you'll also have to become a Xbox Live Gold subscription owner to kick some online butt.

The subscription prices for both are the same:

  • 1 month - $9.99
  • 3 months - $24.99
  • 12 months - $59.99

The online subscription is nothing new, so if you're transferring from a PS4 or an Xbox One you already know the drill. For any potential new players, welcome to the real world!

The next-gen version of FIFA 21 launches on December 4. Until then, you can only play the backward-compatible versions from old consoles.
