As FIFA 22 approaches, leaks pile up. The latest one practically confirms that German striker Mario Gómez is going to be a FIFA 22 Icon. We have the striker's stats ready for you.
Twitter erupted yesterday, with everyone talking about Mario Gómez' confirmation as a FIFA 22 Icon. Well, not officially, anyway. The leaks are so convincing, however, that it's as good as done.
Mario Gómez FIFA 22 Icon Card Stats
If Mario Gómez becomes an Icon in FIFA 22, he will be the second legendary German striker that we will be able to play with in FIFA. The other one is fellow World Cup 2014 champion Miroslav Klose.

The leak gives us a very good estimation of Mario Gómez' FIFA 22 Icon card stats. They will look something like this:
- Name: Mario Gómez
- Position: ST
- Nation: Germany
- Predicted OVR: 88 | 90 | 91 | 93
- Weak Foot: 3 stars
- Skill Moves: 3 stars
Estimating the strength of the various Mario Gómez Icon cards, is currently still pure speculation. We assume that his base stats will be somewhere between 86-88 OVR.
The striker scored 110 times in 230 competitive matches for Stuttgart. In the 2006/2007 season, he won the German championship with the team. After his time in Stuttgart, he was drawn to Bayern Munich. The Munich club signed the Bundesliga's top scorer in 2009 for around €30 million. At Bayern, Gómez scored 113 goals in 174 games, won the double in his debut season and was part of FCB's treble team in 2013.
Gómez then played for Fiorentina and Beşiktaş, before returning to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. He ended his career at Volkswagen Arena in 2020, age 35.
In FIFA, we don't really expect outstanding speed, especially on the base card. Dribbling and passing also aren't likely to be very high. Finishing and physicality, on the other hand, will be in the high 80s at least, even on the lowest-rated card. Objectively, Gómez isn't going to be anyone's favorite FIFA 22 Icon, unless the meta changes drastically from FIFA 21, which is about as probable as Germany winning EURO 2020.
