The Team of the Season (TOTS) in FIFA 23 is about to start. To save the power curve in FUT, the TOTS event comes late, but maybe not too late. We'll tell you what we, as FIFA players, can and must expect from the TOTS event.
Real talk: which FUT campaign made you really excited lately? Assuming you can think about something: how many times have you used different cards or seen a variety of players in opponent's squads?
It feels like we've been playing against the same teams for months. That's just lame. EA Sports should be alarmed, because EA has failed here, and not for the first time in FIFA 23.
Despite the abundance of events and new cards, team building in FUT was already completed for most FIFA 23 players in December of last year. The culprit is found quickly: Once again, EA's power curve doesn't work.
FIFA 23: The FUT Power Curve Explained
What is the power curve? The power curve shows the development of FUT card ratings over the course of a FIFA year. It is extremely important for the balance of the game. A functioning, slowly increasing power curve ensures that we can be hyped for every event, as each new FIFA 23 promo promises stronger cards compared to the previous one.
The power curve does not have to rise steadily, it can even stay at the same level for a certain period of time. Otherwise, all FUT cards would have a 99 rating after just a few months. However, in order not to negatively influence the fun of the game, it should not do one thing: it should not decline.
The Power Curve Problem In FIFA 23:
The same procedure as last year? The same procedure as every year! The nemesis of a functioning power curve in FIFA is the same campaign every year. It's called Team of the Year and is almost an impossible challenge for the power curve. The problem is home-made, as those cards get released in the middle of the FUT year – but the TOTY MUST contain the strongest cards in the game.
So, it is self-explanatory why the rising power curve finds its master in the TOTY, because better than a 99-rated Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema and so on is simply not possible. But this year, EA Sports went one step further! They included the World Cup mode at the beginning of November – and we had to say: “Goodbye, functioning power curve.”At this point, we come back to the initial question in a slightly modified way: "Which World Cup Heroes do you regularly see in your opponents' team?" Let us guess: you immediately think of Yaya Touré, Lúcio or Capdevila. Those 3 cards are enough to prove how pretty much meaningless all the other promos apart from the TOTY were.
Why play a FUT Birthday or FUT Fantasy card if they can't match the World Cup Heroes?
live scenes Essien should be more then 500k but the state of this market reflects how the meta power curve has moved up since the crash he is only 287k #FIFA23 #TrophyTitans pic.twitter.com/95j5X7rUiX

TOTS In FIFA 23: The Savior Of The FUT Power Curve?
Let's stop with criticizing the power curve in FIFA 23 – we can't change what already happened. We think you feel just like us: it would be great to finally welcome other meta FUT cards in our squads – or at least see them in opposing teams.
This is where we hope for our savior. The TOTS event has always brought many cards in FUT, which can compete with the rating of TOTY cards and the best Icons. Since we have been waiting for new usable player material since November (beside Icons or Heroes) all hopes are pinned on the TOTS event. We are confident that TOTS will give us a happy end towards the FIFA year.
