The coronavirus pandemic is not doing the first Flashpoint season any favors, to put it mildly. The latest developments see all games being pushed back in time as the tournament is moving from its Los Angeles studio setting to an online format.
Flashpoint – the last warrior to surrender to the coronavirus
Flashpoint Season 1 was the last remaining Mohican in the world of esports. All other events were already cancelled or moved online by Friday due to the coronavirus situation, but not Flashpoint. The league’s inaugural games were played out through the weekend in Los Angeles as originally planned. Without any audience of course, but still.
That won’t be the case anymore as the pandemic keeps on growing, restrictions on public gatherings are getting tighter and public events are getting cancelled by the minute. While Flashpoint is not going to cancel play altogether, it is going to follow in the footsteps of ESL Pro League and move its regular season online for the safety of staff and players.
In order for the stage to be set for the league’s continuation, all Flashpoint matches will be postponed until all parties involved are fully prepared to resume play from the safety of their homes. Expectations are for a quick resolve and a return for the league before the weekend hits.
Two matches were supposed to take place today after Monday was declared a day for rest. With this delay, it remains unclear exactly when the HAVU – c0ntact Gaming and MAD Lions – Copenhagen Flames clashes are going to commence. What’s for certain is that, when they do, we’ll be there to cover the action.
