In our Player of the Month series, we introduce you to some of the best players, streamers, and content creators in Fortnite. Today, it's none other than EpikWhale.

Each month, we take a look at a player who has done exceptional work in recent weeks. EarlyGame's Player of the Month for August 2021: EpikWhale.

Who is EpikWhale?

EpikWhale is a Fortnite esports player who currently plays for NRG Esports North America. EpikWhale started gaming when he was very young, and his favorite game was Disney's Club Penguin, an MMO for kids. He and his brother started playing Fortnite when it launched in 2017, and he soon became addicted to the Battle Royale shooter, which would pay dividends later on in his life. As a kid, he focused a lot on solving Rubik's cubes, and his love for problem-solving began. He believes that these traits, along with a high level of self-discipline and time management, contributed to his success in competitive Fortnite.

After qualifying for the Fortnite 2019 World Cup Finals on April 29, in week 3 of the World Cup Week solo tryouts, he caught the attention of the big teams and was signed with NRG Esports on July 19, 2019, at the age of 16. That was just before he managed to finish a whopping 3rd place at the Fortnite World Cup Finals on July 28, 2019, winning him $1.2 million in prize money.

EpikWhale is currently planning to take a year off after graduating high school, then he will pursue his pro career at NRG Esports full time.

Why is EpikWhale our Fortnite Player of the Month?

You've just read that Whale is a fabulous player. But what happened in August that we're choosing him this month?

On August 3, he took 1st place along with his trio rehx and Arkhram and won $400 in a small event. Then, on August 15, his hot streak continued where he took 2nd place in the Solo Cash Cups and took home another $350. Two days later, he scooped up another $350 in the Trio Cash Cups with another second-place finish. He then finished his run and took home first place for a cool $400 in the Trio Cash Cups with his mates.EpikWhale also played the qualifiers for the FNCS and took first place in the 2nd qualifying round as well. The FNCS is still underway at the time of writing, and we're excited to see him compete in the finals on September 5 for the $3 million prize pool. We have high expectations for EpikWhale and his team, and we wish them good luck!
