The icon series combines gaming, music, film, and fashion by celebrating the artistic visions, character traits, and attitudes of the world's best creators in Fortnite!
J Balvin was first added to the game in Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 7 on August 27, 2021, with patch 17.40.
Who is J Balvin?
In case you really live under a rock, let's introduce you to J Balvin.José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, better known as J Balvin, is a Colombian singer. He's known as the "Prince of Reggaeton" (from Spanish: "Príncipe del Reggaetón") and is one of the best-selling artists of Latin American music, with more than 35 million records sold worldwide.
Over the course of his career, Balvin has won five Billboard Latin Music Awards, four Latin Grammy Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and four Latin American Music Awards, and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards. In 2017, he was named Contemporary Latin Songwriter of the Year by the BMI Latin Awards for his contribution to the Latin American music industry and received the first Global Icon Award of the Lo Nuestro Awards in recognition of his contribution to the spread of Latin American music around the world. He was the first Latino to headline global music events such as Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Lollapalooza. In addition, the Guinness Book of World Records recognized him as "the leader of a second-generation reggaeton revolution".
His breakthrough came in 2014 with "Ginza" and the single "6 AM" with Puerto Rican singer Farruko, which landed number 2 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, followed by "Ay Vamos". On August 1, 2017, "Mi Gente" reached the Global Top 50 on Spotify and over a billion views on YouTube. He worked with Cardi B and Bad Bunny, among others, on the US Billboard Hot 100 number one single "I Like It", which was also nominated for a Grammy Award for record of the year.
J Balvin In Fortnite
J Balvin is actually quite an old hand when it comes to Fortnite. He has already appeared in the game in our Party Royale mode and performed his then-new single "La Luz" live. But the singer apparently insisted on returning to Fortnite as a playable skin and joining the icon series.The J Balvin outfit can be bought for 2,000 V-Bucks in the item shop. The complete J Balvin package costs 2,400 V-Bucks, though. But you could also have unlocked these items for free by entering the J Balvin Cup on August 24th and placing yourself high.
