Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the world, with a massive player base and numerous amounts of crossovers and cameos. It's no wonder that Hollywood is eyeing it as the next blockbuster hit.

With the recent success of high-quality video game adaptations like The Super Mario Movie and HBO Max's The Last of Us series, fans are eager to know if there are any plans for a Fortnite movie or series.

A Fortnite Movie In The Works?

Collider's Steve Weintraub recently had the chance to speak with Donald Mustard, the Chief Creative Officer at Epic Games, the development studio behind the Battle Royale title, about the possibility of a Fortnite adaptation.

Mustard said that while there aren't any current plans for a series or film, it doesn't mean that it would never happen. He emphasized that he wants to do stuff that feels authentic and is a great story.

Epic Games has a relationship with Joe Russo and the brothers' production company AGBO, which Epic has invested in. This connection could be used to leverage a Fortnite adaptation if they wanted to. Mustard agreed that the connection would make getting a film or TV project off the ground much easier, but right now, there are other things they're working on.

Fortnite is known for having Hollywood stars and franchises in their game, with many crossovers with popular franchises like Star Wars and Aquaman. They even had Dwayne Johnson appear as a major character called The Foundation before appearing as his own Black Adam-inspired cosmetic.

Video Game Adaptations on the Rise

Video game adaptations have been successful in both film and TV in recent years, with streaming services like Netflix creating fantastic adaptations like Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel saw impressive box office showings, with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 blazing past $400 million dollars at the global box office and having the highest-grossing opening weekend for a video game adaptation ever with $72.1 million.

SEGA has announced plans to adapt more of their games in the future, and other video game adaptations in development include a Ghost of Tsushima film by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, a Twisted Metal series at Peacock, and a film based on the Video Game Award's 2022 Game of the Year It Takes Two at Prime Video.

In conclusion, while there are currently no plans for a Fortnite movie or series, the possibility is not off the table. With Epic Games' connection to Joe Russo and AGBO, it could make the process much easier.

As video game adaptations continue to rise in popularity and success, it's only a matter of time before we see more beloved titles brought to life on the big screen or small screen.
