Gen.G impressed at DreamHack Open Anaheim to win the organization’s first ever CS:GO tournament trophy.

Gen.G running wild in California

Gen.G had one of the most clutch CS:GO tournament runs in recent memory at DreamHack Open Anaheim. Damian “daps” Steele masterminded his team’s road to victory through numerous incredibly close maps that were going down to the final rounds, and even the final round.

Gen.G’s opening game began the theme of drama-filled matches that just went the American team’s way. ENCE were the first victim of a 30-round loss and it was a particularly hard pill to swallow as the Finns were 13-5 up on Nuke at one point. Daps and co. had it easy in their next game versus Complexity where it took “just” 29 rounds to cross the finish line on Inferno.

Once out of the group stage… absolutely nothing changed for Gen.G. A 2-0 win over North seems like a cruise on the surface, but the 16-13;16-14 scoreline on Dust II and Mirage confirmed that no matter the map, it’s drama or nothing with Gen.G.

The first map of the Grand Final decided to be a rebel and run from the established trends. For the first time, all weekend the future DreamHack Open Anaheim champions played less than 29 rounds on a map for a 16-7 win on Nuke vs. Brazilians FURIA. Gen.G remembered what their bread and butter is on Inferno and compensated for the outlier that was Nuke with an overtime battle. Daps and co. came away with the goods once again and the in-game leader lifted his first title with this roster in hopes of many more to come.

This win secures Gen.G $50,000 in prize money and a spot in one of the premier CS:GO tournaments of 2020 – DreamHack Masters Jönköping.
