Maybe I'm just late to the party, but I somehow totally missed that Dead by Daylight is getting its own movie! It's already been a couple of months since the movie was announced, so let's check out what we know about it by now!
Dead by Daylight, the iconic asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, is getting its own movie! The developers of Dead by Daylight, Behaviour Interactive, announced the news back in March 2023, but how much do we know about the movie by now?
Well, the announcement already revealed that Behaviour is partnering up with not only Atomic Monster, but also Blumhouse to create the Dead by Daylight movie! Two iconic staples of the horror movie franchise will be working together to create yet another masterpiece.
Both James Wan, the founder of Atomic Monster, and Jason Blum, the founder of Blumhouse, seem very confident in producing this movie. James Wan previously stated:
We’re big fans of the game at Atomic Monster, and are thrilled to be teaming up with Blumhouse to bring this frighteningly visceral world to the big screen.
It seems that Dead by Daylight fans can be at ease, as this project has landed in the right hands.
Dead by Daylight Movie Release Date Estimations
Since there haven't been any official updates about the Dead by Daylight movie by now, it's hard to say when the movie might come out. Last we heard, they were still looking for a director and a screenwriter for the movie. But, according to Jason Blum:
There are so many fans of Dead by Daylight out there and think it's imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen.
Seeing as many other horror movies can take multiple years to create, it might be a while until we get a proper update, let alone a real release date for the movie. If we take the Five Night at Freddy's movie, for example, that movie was in development since 2015 and was just released in October 2023.
Sure, the DbD movie might not have the same production difficulties as the FNAF movie had, but looking at the other newer works done by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, we'll probably have to wait about 3 to 4 years until the Dead by Daylight movie comes out. If we're lucky, perhaps it will only take 2 more years from here on out, but I don't think that's very likely.
Dead by Daylight Movie Plot Guesses And Possible Characters
While Dead by Daylight has plenty of iconic characters to offer, many killers and survivors probably won't make their way to the big screen. Since many of the playable characters in Dead by Daylight are licensed from other big franchises, they'll probably be left out of the movie. It seems unlikely that other franchises will allow Behaviour to include some of their most iconic characters into a Dead by Daylight movie, but who knows? Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised!
Imagine if Nick Cage actually stars in the movie, that would be incredible.
The movie will most likely star the most iconic characters of the game, that are also available in the base game, such as the Trapper and the Huntress, as well as survivors like Meg, Claudette and Dwight. Here's a list of characters that will very likely appear in the movie:
Survivor
Survivor | Killer 🔪 |
Meg Thomas | The Trapper |
Dwight Fairfield | The Nurse |
Claudette Morel | The Hillbilly |
Jake Park | The Wraith |
Nea Karlsson | The Huntress |
David King |
While William "Bill" Overbeck is also a part of the base game of Dead by Daylight, I'm not sure if he will actually appear in the movie, as he is originally from Left 4 Dead. There are a lot of other original DLC characters that could appear in the movie like Feng Min and the Doctor, or Yui Kimura and the Oni, but perhaps they'll only play smaller roles in the movie.
As for the plot, we can only guess what the movie will really be about, but I'd think that we might find out more about the Void Realm.
With each new chapter that is released in Dead by Daylight, we find out more and more about the lore of the game. The newest Haunted by Daylight event even lets us players step into the Void Realm, which is something that we never thought we'd be able to do.
Sure, the movie will probably show us scenes that look like the actual gameplay in Dead by Daylight, but I think we'll find out more about what the behind the scenes of Dead by Daylight looks like. After all, what is the Void Realm like for Killers and Survivors while they're waiting for their next match?
Perhaps we'll even see more in regard to how the entity works, or what it's like when they find new "prey", aka new survivors and killers. It's very much possible that the movie will introduce a new survivor and killer, and will show us what it actually looks like when they're taken in by the fog and what their first reactions are to the entity and the Void Realm.
