House of the Dragon is coming back with season 2 in “early summer 2024”, according to HBO CEO Casey Bloys. ICYMI, the release window was TBD so far, but now it was finally confirmed that the successful (and really good!) Game of Thrones spin-off is set to return next year.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Set To Release In Summer 2024

This joyful news was revealed by Bloys at an press event on Thursday, with Variety reporting on these details. At that event, selected press also got to see a first trailer for House of the Dragon season 2. However, this trailer is still kept under wraps and the journalists who got to see it apparently had to sign an NDA. So we don’t know what is shown in the trailer and it will probably take a while to find out.

Considering that the WGA strike and the SAG-AFTRA have dominated much of the entertainment industry, in terms of coverage and also by how many shows and films had to be delayed, it’s good news for consumers that House of the Dragon will continue around two years after the first season.

While actors have been protesting and advocating for fair pay since July 14, the production for House of the Dragon’s second season apparently happened to be done before that day. It still seems like the premier has been pushed back to 2024 to buy the studios some time, hoping that the SAG-AFTRA strike will be concluded so that stars like Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy can do promo for the show.
