The announcement of Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 5 was a source of excitement for many players. After all, since the debut of the "Real Driving Simulator" on the first PlayStation, the racing game series from Polyphony Digital has been considered the flagship of console simulations. Sony has now revealed how the racer benefits from the next-generation power of the PlayStation 5.
Gran Turismo 7 is undoubtedly one of the hottest games that Sony has unveiled on the PlayStation 5. After all, the name has stood for quality in the racing game genre for more than 23 years now. GT7 takes advantage of the extra power of the PS5, as Simon Rutter, PlayStation Executive Vice President, has now revealed.

Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 5: what to expect
Gran Turismo 7 is undoubtedly a flagship title for the upcoming next-generation PlayStation 5 console, and of course, the racing simulation will make extensive use of the additional hardware power of the Sony console. Loading times should be almost completely a thing of the past thanks to the fast SSD hard drive. Technically, they want to create a similar sensation thanks to a brand new graphics engine and extensive ray tracing support, as the team succeeded in doing with the third series part of the generation change to the PlayStation 2. Who remembers those incredible reflections of the sun's rays on Trial Mountain? Oh, that was nice.
Thanks to 3D audio support, it should even be possible to distinguish between the engine sounds of different vehicle manufacturers purely acoustically. In an interview with The Guardian, PlayStation’s EVP for Europe Simon Rutter commented:
Gran Turismo 7 is going to benefit from almost every single technological enhancement that we have in PlayStation 5. The loading times will be next to nothing compared to what they have been in the past. Sitting in the cockpit, the 3D audio allows you to hear the thunderous roar of a Ferrari behind you or in front of you, and you can recognise the difference between that and the engine noise of a Maserati.
New gaming experience thanks to DualSense controller
Those who play Gran Turismo 7 not with a steering wheel but with the innovative DualSense controller of the PS5 should benefit from the features of the new gamepad. These include haptic feedback through the adaptive triggers:
Driving the car using the DualSense controller, you’ll have a different feeling in your hands from the smooth undulating tarmac of a racetrack, compared to the gritty sensation on a gravel track. Pressing a soft accelerator will feel very different than pressing on a stiff brake pedal or gear paddle.
In terms of gameplay, Gran Turismo 7 wants to return to the origins of the series after the sports spin-off. This includes a classic career mode, extensive tuning options, and the return of legendary cups and events.
There is still no release date for Gran Turismo 7 yet.
