G2 Esports start the week with a clean win against Team Vitality. After a lot of embarrassing failures, the spring champions no doubt want to secure a playoff spot - and the place at Worlds it brings.
After several key losses, spring split champions G2 Esports started the penultimate week of the LEC at a deficit, with six wins and seven losses, just one more than the struggling Team Vitality. Once the two teams went on the rift, however, the difference was clear.
G2 Take the Lead
G2 had the early pressure and were soon ahead of Vitality, the gold difference almost reaching 3K just 10 minutes in. The spring champions pressed their lead throughout the early game with Rasmus "Caps" Winther in his usual stellar form. Unluckily for Vitality, G2’s mid laner was not the only one who came to play. Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski and Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle were also having a good game and G2 was soon smashing all lanes.
A Valiant Defense but Too Late
That advantage made the difference in a fight 22 minutes in. Duncan "Skeanz" Marquet denied a huge Gnar ultimate, but it was still not enough and G2 got a kil and the infernal soul. Vitality were soon too far behind to match the spring split champions as they took the Baron and pushed towards their base.
Vitality contested but lost the fight, losing two quick inhibitors. G2 regrouped and went for the last one, then pushed onwards to secure the game. With this, Vitality are now at 5-9 and in ninth place just in front of FC Schalke 04. G2, meanwhile, are finally back in the upper half of the table with a 7-7 record - but more importantly, they looked like a top tier team in this match.
