For the past several weeks there has been an increasing stream of info snippets “accidentally” dropped on the Call of Duty community. Those leaks all seem to point to one thing – a new Battle Royale mode is coming to Modern Warfare.
What’s up with this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale talk
Well, first of all, a new Modern Warfare mode has been heavily hinted at by Activision and Infinity Ward. The start of Season 2 came with a “classified” section in the mode select menu, which aside from a troll game beyond our comprehension should mean that an actual game mode will appear in place of the classified section in due time.
Having a new mode is one thing, but confirming it will be a Battle Royale is a different story. Neither Activision, nor Infinity Ward have given even the slightest hint that this would indeed be the case. Quite the contrary, the developers have gone on a mini witch hunt, trying to take down any posts or videos regarding the supposed BR.
Yet somehow we’ve seen enough clues to build a house with. It all started with the discovery of a map the size of Texas via the free-roam feature of Atlas Super Store. This ties up well with another leak that surfaced around the same time. This screenshot posted on Reddit shows the name of the classified mode to be Warzone, with the description stating that it shall be a survival mode with space for up to 200 players. And such a number requires a big map, a map the size of Texas, dare I say.
Now Reddit screenshots aren’t the most reliable source in the world, but this particular one got some backing when an in-game bug started pushing some players into a screen that simply says “Warzone”. I must say, with all the efforts to presumably keep the classified mode, well, classified, I don’t think I’m the only one to be puzzled by the emerging of this bug, right? We see you, Infinity Ward.
While no real info has been given on what will come of this “classified” stuff or when it will be released to the public, with all the evidence we’ve seen this past week, it would take Penn & Teller to fool us out of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale.
