Day 8

DRX started the day with a win against FlyQuest, never losing control of the game and getting a clean win. Top matched that feat with a stomp of a win against the Unicorns of Love (no doubt trying to make our top 5 list), overpowering them in all lanes early on and giving them no way to strike back. With these results, DRX and Top have both guaranteed themselves the top 2 spots - the only question is who would be first.

UoL had to play another underdog game against DRX, yet despite a good start they once more found themselves outmatched as Hong "Pyosik" Chang-hyeon and Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu piled on insane damage. The Unicorns made some gutsy plays and ended securing both Barons of the game, but it was not enough. FlyQuest did one better, however, as in their game against DRX they got an early advantage and kept being ahead of the game, using their early objective lead for an ocean soul, two barons and eventually ended the game, giving TES their first defeat. The NA second seed ended their Worlds run on a high note, smashing Unicorns of Love in the two teams’ last game, once more off a great Tristan "PowerOfEvil" Schrage performance.

The final game featured DRX and Top Esports locked in a very tense, cautious match for the first place. It took some 23 minutes for one team to actually get a kill, making it the latest first blood at Worlds.. The LPL champions were eventually able to secure the mountain soul and close the game after a fight in the enemy base.

  • FlyQuest 0-1 DRX
  • Unicorns of Love 0-1 Top Esports
  • DRX 1-0 Unicorns of Love
  • Top Esports 0-1 FlyQuest
  • Unicorns of Love 0-1 FlyQuest
  • DRX 0-1 Top Esports

Day 7

Fnatic opened the day with a mostly one-sided game against TSM. The NA champions, already 0:3 in week 1, are now eliminated from playoffs. Gen.G, meanwhile, followed that up with two games that had their fans on the edge of their seats: first winning a very close game against LGD Gaming, then having a horrible start against TSM, only to turn it in the mid-game after the NA team threw at the baron.

Fnatic guaranteed themselves a playoff spot with a decisive victory against LGD,setting us up for a climactic showdown with Gen.G. Before that, we got to see LGD getting a measure of redemption by stomping TSM, leaving Bjergsen and co the first team to end Worlds with a 0-6 record. Unfortunately for EU fans, once more we saw the LEC team stumble in their last game: despite a good opening from Fnatic, Gen.G quickly recovered and forced their will on the game, ending in a very one-sided fashion to take the first place in the group.

  • Fnatic 1-0 Team SoloMid
  • LGD Gaming 0-1 Gen.G
  • Team SoloMid 0-1 Gen.G
  • Fnatic 1-0 LGD Gaming
  • LGD Gaming 1-0 Team Solomid
  • Gen.G 1-0 Fnatic

Day 6

DAMWON started the day with a win against underdogs PSG Talon, quickly growing a gold lead and taking over the game. JD Gaming had to struggle a bit more with Rogue, but despite a fairly even early game they found their way to victory by outplaying Rogue on the map and punishing small mistakes in teamfights. Their victory saw Rogue and PSG Talon eliminated before the other four games were played. DAMWON coasted to yet another victory against Rogue, who tried a risky strategy and got punished. However, JD Gaming found themselves caught out by PSG, who found several early kills, stayed ahead and eventually used an ocean soul and a Baron to end the game. This locks JDG in second place.

In the clash for third place it became clear that the EU Week 2 buff did not apply to Rogue. They drafted a composition without good engage and the PCS teams smashed them in the mid-game teamfights to take their second win of the day, showing much of the skill that impressed us in the play-ins. The day ended with JGD defeating DAMWON in a bloody last game, where both teams showed a lot of skill, but despite this loss the LCK champions remain in first place.

  • PSG Talon 0-1 DAMWON Gaming
  • Rogue 0-1 JD Gaming
  • DAMWON Gaming 1-0 Rogue
  • JD Gaming 1-0 PSG Talon
  • PSG Talon 1-0 Rogue
  • JD Gaming 1-0 DAMWON Gaming

Day 5

Group A started with the rematch between G2 Esports and Team Liquid and this time, the LEC champions were merciless, avenging their earlier defeat by quickly taking apart the TL team composition. Both Suning and G2 took down Machi, who despite some good moments in the G2 game (where G2 attempted to throw) were sadly outclassed.

This is when Team Liquid made their move to keep their playoff hopes alive, first defeating Suning in a very impressive game before smashing Machi. If G2 could defeat Suning, TL would play the Chinese team in a tiebreaker for second place.

Unfortunately for TL, the defeat apparently made Suning angry. After falling behind in a scrappy early game, the LEC champions fell apart in the mid-game. This forced a tiebreaker between the two teams for first place and once more, Suning won the mid-game and try as they did, G2 could not keep them at bay forever.

  • Team Liquid 0-1 G2 Esports
  • Machi Esports 0-1 Suning
  • G2 Esports 1-0 Machi Esports
  • Suning 0-1 Team Liquid
  • Team Liquid 1-0 Machi Esports
  • Suning 1-0 G2 Esports
  • Tiebreaker: Suning 1-0 G2 Esports
