Arcane has already swept the Annie Awards earlier this year, but now the show has set its eyes on bigger fish. Not only was Arcane nominated for multiple animation awards at the 2022 Emmy Awards, but it is also in the running for the biggest Animation Emmy "Outstanding Animated Program".

With the success that Arcane has garnered it's hard to imagine the show not winning this award as well, right? So, what awards has Arcane already won at the Emmys?

Arcane Wins Outstanding Animated Program

Did anyone think that Arcane wouldn't be winning the biggest Emmy in animation? After the huge success of the show, even going behind the scenes in a short series on YouTube about the show, fans know that blood, sweat and tears went into this project.

On September 4, 2022 it was announced that Arcane had taken home the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, being the first series from a streaming service to do so, as well as the first time a show based off a video game as well.

Arcane Wins Three Awards Ahead of Emmys

Not every category is shown on television during the Emmy Awards. Some awards are given out in advance. Otherwise, the show would last four days, and well, ahead of the official Emmys, Arcane has already taken home three awards.

Colour Script Artist Anne-Laure To took home an Emmy for the episode "The Boy Saviour". The second award went to the episode "Happy Progress Day" where Julien Georgel was awarded for Art Direction and finally "When These Walls Come Tumbling Down" was awarded as well with Bruno Couchinho taking home the Emmy.

So, with these awards already under their belt, what else can Arcane score on the night of the Emmys?

All Emmy "Outstanding Animated Program" Nominees

We all know that animation is usually looked down upon when it comes to award shows. The Oscars are a joke, merely picking whatever Pixar movie the judges have heard of before, so having unique and brand-new animated shows and movies added to these, is a big deal. Now it's just important that the judges actually watch and give the medium the respect it deserves.

But enough ranting it's time to check out the nominees of the 74th Emmy Awards.

  • Arcane
  • Bob's Burgers
  • Rock and Morty
  • The Simpsons
  • What If...?

Looking at the official Emmy Awards page, it is a bit discerning to see that neither Arcane nor What If...? don't even have any images. While Bob's Burgers, Rick and Morty and The Simpsons have been nominated before both Arcane and What If...? are first timers at the Emmys.

When Are the Emmy Awards Aired?

The Emmy Awards will take place September 12, 2022. So you can tune in to find out whether Arcane wins another award this year. Make sure to tune in to find out!

Other Animation Emmy Nominations

The Emmys also has an "Outstanding Short Form Animated Program" category where multiple other animated shows are being honored for their story telling in short form. Netflix's Love Death + Robots is one of the nominated in this category.

Outstanding Short Form Animated Program Nominees

  • Love Death + Robots
  • Robot Chicken
  • Star Wars: Visions
  • The Boys: Diabolical
  • When Billie Met Lisa

Will you be following the Emmys this year or are you as done with awards shows as we are? It seems like animation is still getting the short end of the stick when it comes to awards, but hopefully more successful shows like Arcane will put the medium on the map and show that it isn't 'just for children'.
