Will Arcane Season 2 Be Cancelled?

Netflix might be cutting its animation department, but that doesn't mean we have to worry about the second season of Arcane.

Netflix might be cutting funds amidst backlash, but will that have an effect on our favorite Netflix show of 2021? Not at all. In a statement by Riot to Dexerto the video game giant has explained that there is no need to worry about Arcane Season 2 being axed because of Netflix.

So, while many other projects are being put on ice, we can breathe easy knowing that next year — please Riot let it be next year and not 2024 — we can sit back and enjoy some more Vi, Jayce and Jinx on the big screen.

Netflix Cuts Due to Losses

What had fans worried anyway? Well, Netflix hasn't been doing too hot lately. For the first time since 2011, the company is losing subscribers and the company is predicting many more losses for the second quarter of 2022.

This is in part due to password sharing, as well as competitors gaining momentum in the streaming industry. Disney+, Amazon Prime, Hulu and many other streaming services are catching up to Netflix in terms of subscribers and content. People just want to watch Marvel and well... for that, you'll need Disney+.

So, as you can tell, there are quite a few problems in Netflix land right now, which resulted in the company's stocks plummeting from $350 to $226.19 on April 20. I'm no stock expert, but that sure doesn't look good to me.

So, what does Netflix do because of all this? Time to cut costs, and what is the first department hit? Of course, the animation department. According to a report by The Wrap Director of Creative Leadership and Development for Original Animation, Phil Rynda was also axed, so it even hit the big shots in the animation department of Netflix.

Arcane Season 2 Is Safe

Now that we have all the stock and money talk out of the way, let's get to the important part, which is the second season of Arcane. The show is streamed on Netflix, that much we know, but thankfully, Netflix has nothing to do with the development of the series. That's all in the hands of Riot Games and Fortiche in France.

Riot even bought a stake in Fortiche, which should be sign enough that we don't have to be worried about the upcoming second season of the Annie-Award winning series. Netflix is only the distributor and if Netflix goes belly-up we know that there are more than enough streaming services out there which can take its place... but let's be real, Netflix isn't going to go down that quickly.

So, while there are huge cuts in the animation field, Fortiche is continuing to work on Arcane Season 2 — as well as other projects most likely related to games from Riot.

What kind of a show would you like to see next by Fortiche and Riot Games? Something related to VALORANT? Or maybe a show about our favorite champions in League of Legends in a different region of Runeterra? The options are endless, and thankfully Netflix isn't involved in any of them.
