After fighting their way through the lower bracket, G2 Esports demolished Fnatic in a 3-0 series to avenge their earlier loss and secure their place in the final.
After two weeks of games, the LEC playoff race is down to the top 3 teams. The first game is the lower bracket semifinal, bringing us a rematch of the Fnatic vs G2 Esports series of the first round. That time, Fnatic won 3-1 to make their way to the winners’ semifinal, where they lost dramatically to Rogue in a 2-3 reverse sweep. G2, meanwhile, went on a tear in the lower bracket, sweeping first Team Vitality and then Misfits Gaming to get their big rematch.
Great Start for G2
From the start of the series it was clear that G2 was not the same team from the last time they played against Fnatic. Their aggression and early ganks set them ahead early and they punished Marek "Humanoid" Brázda’s Twisted Fate, never letting him dominate the map as they took one objective after another. Eventually, G2 secured both Hextech Soul and a Baron, breaking the mid-lane inhibitor before regrouping for the finishing blow.
The second game started better for Fnatic, who lost the first blood off a Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski gank but quickly replied. The two teams went even during the first ten minutes, but then G2 found a series of skirmishes to turn the match in their favor. Fnatic tried to find something back, but none of their plays bore fruit and just 20 minutes in, they were 4K gold behind. Rasmus "caPs" Winther’s Ahri was monstrously strong and the G2 mid laner stomped Fnatic in several fights before his team got the second win in just over 30 minutes.
Fnatic Make Their Stand
In what could be their last game, Fnatic opted for a scaling composition, trusting their carries when their playoff was on the line. However, G2’s expert early game once more set them behind. Still, Fnatic clung on in this game and 28 minutes in were rewarded for their persistence, winning a big teamfight and getting the Baron. G2 recovered well, landing a big outplay that saw them take an inhibitor in the face of Fnatic’s Baron buffed push and securing the infernal soul after a clutch steal by Jankos. In the end, a risky engage by Zdravets "Hylissang" Galabov ended up deciding the game - G2 countered it well, killed the Fnatic carries and closed out the game to avenge their earlier loss.
