In LoL Patch 13.20, Jax will finally receive his ASU which Riot revealed a few months ago. But how have the devs changed the champions looks, and will he finally have a real weapon come Patch 13.20?
League of Legends has been around for almost one-and-a-half decades at this point, so it's safe to say that the game has changed a lot since then. Still, there are quite a few relics that remain from the time that now instills a lot of nostalgia in seasoned LoL veterans.
Jax, the Grandmaster-at-Arms, is one of the original LoL champions that have been inside the game from the very start. Since then, the Icathian warrior has seen very few changes to his visuals. A few months ago Riot announced that they were going to give him a whole new look, and here it is! The Visual Update for Jax is now live and available on the PBE!
LoL Jax Visual Update: Everything You Need To Know!
Riot had been working on the "Art and Sustainability Update", as is the official name, for our buddy Jax for at least a few months before finally releasing it on the PBE server on September 26, 2023.
Since then, interested players had a chance to get a first impression of his Visual Update either through the PBE itself or by checking out splash arts and gameplay material that was shared on social media.
Wanna know how to access the PBE server and check out the latest changes? We'll show you how to join!
The first thing we saw from this ASU were the splash arts, and what can we say? They turned out great! Since Jax is one of the oldest champions inside the game, many of his splash arts looked horribly outdated at this point.
Riot has done a great job over the last few years by not only rolling out Visual Updates for champions, but also creating completely new splash arts for countless skins. We can't stress this enough – League of Legends was a completely different game when it first released, and this gets very apparent if you see outdated splash arts or textures.
Jax Visual Update: His Refreshed In-Game Look
But it's not only his splash arts that deserve a lot of praise – the most important thing are his in-game textures, of course! Effects and animations that feel off could have a major impact on player satisfaction and even his overall performance.
It remains to be seen if there are some major bugs or exploits that will affect his gameplay, but so far his new look on Summoner's Rift seems quite impressive! SkinSpotlights has already released several videos showcasing the Jax Visual Update, and in these you can really see the attention to detail the design team showed.
I mean – wow! From the first impression to further focusing on smaller details, this looks to be a quantum leap from his old design. The most impressive thing might very well be his lantern. It emits a light that feels cozy, like you can almost feel its warmth when Jax goes for a leap.
Whether it lives up to your expectations or not – no one can deny that the before-and-after difference is absolutely astounding. In our eyes, Riot has managed to keep Jax's identity alive, while transforming his appearance into something that truly deserves to be part of a game that is still alive and kicking in 2023.
A little end note: Before all hell breaks loose on Summoner's Rift, go and take Jax for a walk in the river and see if you can hook a fish! Who knows... it might be worth it!
