In the last day of games, Team Vitality secured a playoff spot
with a win against Astralis. Meanwhile, a victory against G2 Esports
secured Rogue’s top spot at the end of the 2022 Spring split.
All good things come to an end and that includes the LEC Spring Season. Thankfully, we had several matches keeping things interesting - from the possibility that the much-hyped Team Vitality might miss playoffs to a three-way fight for the top spot between Rogue, Fnatic and Misfits Gaming.
SK's Last Stand
SK Gaming was already eliminated from playoff contention, but they made sure Misfits Gaming would remember them for the off-season. The German squad amassed an early gold and drake lead and stayed ahead of what looked like an unusually uncoordinated Misfits. Eventually, SK got an infernal soul and after a flashy Pentakill by Jean "Jezu" Massol’s Kalista, closed out the game to end the season with a win.
Vitality Seize the Last Spot
Team Vitality had to win their match against Astralis to guarantee a top 6 spot. The early game was anyone’s to win, but as the mid-game started Vitality kicked it up a notch. A clutch fight 17 minutes in saw the favorites get an ace and they never looked back, getting four kills two minutes later and another ace - plus the baron - at 20 minutes. Vitality kept the pressure on and ended the game quickly, securing their playoff spot and bumping 2021 LEC champions MAD Lions out of contention.
MAD End Week 3-0 - A Game Too Late
MAD Lions and Team BDS had even trades in the early game of the third match for the evening, but as the game went on, MAD started looking better. William "UNF0RGIVEN" Nieminen ’s Aphelios got a lot of damage and time and again, İrfan Berk "Armut" Tükek ’s Aatrox cleaned house. BDS had their moments, but were unable to capitalize and 35 minutes in, MAD broke in the BDS base with the Baron and ended the game.
Fnatic Defeat Excel
Fnatic had a good start against Excel Esports and while the UK team had a temporary advantage top Fnatic’s aggression saw them come ahead in several fights, leaving them over 6K up at 13 minutes. Excel’s hopes rested on Patrik "Patrik" Jírů’s Jinx and he made Fnatic sweat in several midgame fights. However, 29 minutes in Fnatic got a clean ace and easily ended the game, securing a top 2 spot. As the cherry on top, Elias "Upset" Lipp ended the spring with only 11 deaths to his name - 2 fewer than the previous record held by Martin "Rekkles" Larsson.
Confident Win for Rogue before Playoffs
Rogue had a strong start against G2, punishing a level 1 G2 invade and securing two more kills in the first 5 minutes. They never let go, pushing the advantage further and further. Several fights, Andrei "Odoamne" Pascu came up clutch in preventing a G2 comeback and eventually, G2 had nothing else in the tank. 26 minutes in, Rogue were in the enemy base, routed G2 and finished the game.
