With the exclusion of the LCL at the 2022 LoL Worlds, one slot has opened up and who is it going to? The LEC, of course.

October is fast approaching and with it is the start of the 2022 League of Legends World Championship. The biggest esports event of the year is nearing and this year it's taking place in North America. After two-years of pandemic, this will also be the first event which is going to allow fans back into the stadiums.

While we finally get the inclusion of the VCS once more and after a strong showing at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational, we couldn't be more excited.

There is one region that won't be attending the 2022 LoL World Championship, though.

LEC To Send More Teams to LoL Worlds 2022

The LEC will be sending one extra team to represent Europe at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship. With the release of the 2022 Worlds schedule, Riot also revealed the slots for the various teams. Who would be playing the Play-In stage and who would qualify right away for the main stage of the event.

Well, with the LCL not having a team to send to the World Championship, Riot decided that instead of leaving one slot open, like they've done in previous years with the VCS missing from competition, they would be giving that extra play-in spot to the LEC.

This means that the LEC is going to be sending four teams to the World Championship, similar to the LPL, who won the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational, and the LCK, who were the MSI runner-ups.

Which Teams Will Make it to Worlds 2022?

The World Championship is always split into two sections. Starting off with the minor regions competing in a Play-In Stage before making it to the main stage, but which team is qualified for which stage? When and where can you watch your favorite LEC teams compete?

Play-In Stage Teams

The Play-In Stage will feature the qualified teams of the minor regions, as well teams of larger regions as well.

  • China (LPL) - 4th Seed
  • Korea (LCK) - 4th Seed
  • Europe (LEC) - 3rd and 4th Seed
  • North America (LCS) - 3rd Seed
  • Southeast Asia (PCS) - 2nd Seed
  • Vietnam (VCS) - 2nd Seed
  • Brazil (CBLOL) - 1st Seed
  • Japan (LJL) - 1st Seed
  • Latin America (LLA) - 1st Seed
  • Oceania (LCO) -1st Seed
  • Turkey (TCL) - 1st Seed

Four teams will make it out of the Play-In Stage and into the Main Stage which is set to kick off on October 7, 2022.

Main Stage Teams

Twelve teams are automatically qualified for the main stage and will be placed into groups beforehand. The final four teams of the Play-In stage will be placed into the groups accordingly.

  • China (LPL) - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Seeds
  • Korea (LCK) - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Seeds
  • Europe (LEC) - 1st and 2nd Seeds
  • North America (LCS) - 1st and 2nd Seeds
  • Southeast Asia (PCS) - 1st Seed
  • Vietnam (VCS) - 1st Seed

Who else is excited about the upcoming World Championship? LEC fans must be even more hyped to know that their region has an extra chance to finally win it all. Will the west finally be able to take home the Summoner's Cup once more or will China and Korea continue to dominate?
