Riot Games are coming out with their new Sentinels of Light content for League of Legends, and we have got our first glimpse of Akshan. Let's take a look at the latest LoL Champion, Akshan, and what has been revealed...

Yep, that's right, Riot Games have released a new Story So Far on their YouTube channel, and this time it's about Akshan, the latest LoL champion to join the roster. Coming with the new Sentinels of Light content on July 8 (that's tomorrow!), it's time to take a look at Akshan's lore. What's the deal?

Before we continue, perhaps you should catch yourself up on our latest League of Legends content to grace our beautiful website...

What Do We Know About Akshan in LoL Rise of the Sentinels?

Akshan seems to be able to bring Champions back to life, according to today's Story So Far reveal. Before we get ahead of ourselves, though, the first thing is that you should probably watch the latest video. It's only two minutes long, but it sure-as-hell reveals a lot about LoL's new Champion, Akshan, and why we should all continue to be hyped for him, the new Sentinels of Light content, and particularly, Rise of the Sentinels...

Anyway, enough blabbering on like a duck out of water (is that a saying?), check out the Story So Far, and everything you need to know about good ol' Akshan...

Were you entertained? In the wise words of Robbie Williams did you let me entertain you? Well... not me, Riot Games... but anyway! It didn't really reveal a whole lot about Akshan in Rise of the Sentinels, instead revealing a whole lot about the death of Isolde, and Viego's quest for vengeance and a want for his lost love to be resurrected.

Look, you watched the video, so I hardly need to explain this all to you – it's all there. Watch it. With your eyes. Akshan was not featured particularly highly, though it was mentioned that he saved the world... we're excited to find out more, and find out how!

What Else Does the Trailer Reveal?

One thing to note, though, is the inclusion of the final splash art at the end. Why? Because a very special someone can be seen. Norra is featured in the splash, or let's be real, the champion we believe to be Norra... and most certainly will be her.

She was originally supposed to be released before the event, hence why she is included in the splash art, but our friend COVID got in the way and ruined that. She will still play a part in the whole Ruination and Sentinels story though, so keep an eye out for her!

What We Know About Akshan's Lore

According to some leaks it is confirmed that Akshan is Shuriman. He grew up in the streets, always having a strong sense of justice, standing up for what he believed to be right. That was until he pissed off the wrong man.

He was beaten and left to die in the streets of his hometown. He was picked up by a kind woman Shadya and through her got introduced to the Sentinels. He trained to become part of them and together with Shadya, they traveled Shurima to find lost weapons they could use to fight off Viego.

  • Check out all the Skins released in June and May!

Of course, the story has to turn dark at some point, because one-day Shadya got murdered. Her death sparked something within Akshan and instead of focusing on the task of fighting the Ruination he has his mindset on one thing and one thing only: vengeance.

What Abilities will Akshan Have?

As mentioned in his lore above Akshan is going to want to avenge his fallen allies. By the Champion trailer, it seems like Akshan will be able to bring back fallen enemies if he is the one to kill the champion who took them down.

Of course, one of Akshan's abilities will also utilize his grappling hook mechanic which lets him swing around the map. Unlike Camille's hook, he is able to swing in a circular motion.

But let's not waste too much time and get into the nitty-gritty of Akshan's kit:

  • Passive - Dirty Fighting: Every 3 hits deal a burst of physical damage. If the target was a champion, Akshan gains a shield. After attacking, Akshan fires a 2nd attack that deals reduced physical damage. If Akshan cancels the 2nd shot he gains a burst of move speed.
  • Q - Avengerang: Akshan throws a boomerang that deals physical damage and reveals enemies hit, extending its range each time it hits an enemy. Enemies can be hit once as the boomerang goes out and once as it returns.
  • W - Going Rogue: This ability has an active and a passive part to it. Let us look take a look:
    • Passive: When enemy champions kill one of Akshan’s allies, they are marked as Scoundrels. When he gets a takedown on a Scoundrel he gains bonus gold, all allies killed by the Scoundrel are resurrected at their base, and Scoundrel status is removed.
    • Active: Akshan becomes camouflaged for a short duration, or indefinitely while near terrain. During this time, Akshan can see trails leading toward Scoundrels and gains move speed and mana regeneration while moving toward them!
  • E - Heroic Swing: Akshan fires a hookshot that embeds in the first terrain hit. While embedded, he can recast to swing around the terrain in the cast direction, firing physical damage bullets at the nearest enemy while swinging. While swinging, he can recast again to jump off.
  • R - Comeuppance: Akshan locks onto an enemy champion and begins channeling power into his gun to store bullets. At the end of the duration or after recasting he unleashes the stored bullets, dealing physical damage based on missing health.

So there you have it a complete look at Akshan's abilities. He seems pretty overloaded and I sense a nerf in his future, but we will just have to wait and see just how everyone will deal with this mid lane marksman.

When will Akshan Release?

Akshan will release with LoL Patch 11.15, so on July 21. Keep in mind that it sometimes takes a while for Champions/Skins to be released in LoL, so it could take a few more days, but it'll definitely be the week of the 21st. He'll be out on PBE soon, so you can try him out before LoL Patch 11.15.
