League of Legends has been played on Summoner's Rift since its inception, with a few exceptions of ARAM and other game modes that had previously been included in the game. But it seems that with the current state of the game, there could be some changes made to the main map of the game – Summoner's Rift.

In a new Quick Gameplay Thoughts blog post, the current dissatisfaction of mage players, as well as top laners was mentioned, but the current state of the map doesn't offer many solutions to the balance team.

LoL Preseason 2024: Could We Be Getting Map Changes?

In the latest Quick Gameplay Thoughts, the balance team started their post off by acknowledging that there is currently a large part of the community that feels alienated, especially after the support role, assassin's and bot laners all received major changes to their items.

While there is a lot of unhappiness right now within these two roles specifically, the balance team of Riot also does not believe that simply buffing a few champions or items is enough to make the roles more fun and more satisfying to play.

One of the main reasons why the game currently doesn't feel that great is the state of the map. It is mentioned that mid laners are too gankable, which is an issue which would require "re-designing some parts of the map".

In the current state of League of Legends, there is also very heavy emphasis on the bot lane, with dragons having a very high priority in the early phases of the game, more so than the Rift Herald even, which means jungler tend to prioritize the bot lane over the top lane.

  • Pick up a K/DA mousepad so you can play your favorite e-girl champion in style.

This often leads to the top lane feelings like a simple 1-vs-1 match rather than an actual team game. The changes to teleport, last year also didn't help the role gain more of an impact on the map.

So, there could be some changes to the map in the future to give the mid lane some more safety, as well as the top lane more agency on the map.
