With only one more week of games, the 2020 summer champions are alone at the top of the LEC rankings. G2 Esports defeated Rogue after several weeks tied for first place and remain undefeated in the second part of the split.
The penultimate week of the LEC 2021 Spring split offered us the much-awaited rematch between G2 Esports and Rogue. The two teams have been dominant all season and spend most of it, including Week 6, tied for first place. Just below them, everyone else was fighting tooth and nail for the remaining spots in the upcoming playoffs.
LEC 2021 Spring Split: Week 7 Day 1
At the start of the week, every team had a chance to make the top 6. For Astralis and Team Vitality, that chance is slim though.
FC Schalke 04 vs MAD Lions
In the first game of the week, FC Schalke 04 Esports faced MAD Lions. While the German squad had some early success in the bottom lane, the Lions played the map masterfully. Their big lead in the objective game led to a mountain soul just 24 minutes in.
Schalke found no way back into the game and eventually lost a teamfight in their base leading to their seventh loss in a row.
Misfits vs Astralis
Meanwhile, Misfits Gaming - Schalke’s rival for the last playoff spots - had an easy win against the struggling Astralis. The Misfits controlled the game from the start and had a comfortable lead.
After the 20-minute mark, Astralis found some picks that narrowed the gap, but eventually Misfits got four kills in a big teamfight, took the Baron, and ended the game.
G2 Esports vs Rogue
Game three saw the clash of G2 Esports and Rogue, the two teams that had dominated the league this season. On the day, however, G2 was simply the better team. Roams by support Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle set up plays around the map that countered Rogue’s early pressure.
Once G2 took the lead, Rogue had no way to come back and lost in a sub-30-minute game.
XL Esports vs Fnatic
The evening ended with a match between XL Exports and Fnatic. The summer finalists had a good start to their game, getting two early kills on AD Carry Elias "Upset" Lipp and an ace 17 minutes in. The game came to a close base race - but Fnatic’s lead and a clutch Gangplank ult won them the game.
LEC 2021 Spring Split: Week 7 Day 2
FC Schalke 04 vs Astralis
The first game on Saturday matched two teams in a deep slump, FC Schalke 04 Esports and Astralis. Despite Erberk "Gilius" Demir’s two early kills for the Royal Blues, the two teams were neck and neck for most of the game.
Schalke’s time finally came 31 minutes in as mid laner Felix "Abbedagge" Braun dominated a teamfight that saw his team secure the Baron.
His Azir remained a powerhouse in teamfights, carrying his team to victory several minutes later to finally break the long dry spell.
Excel Esports vs Vitality
After their loss to Fnatic, Excel Esports had a chance to end their own losing stream - but Team Vitality had other plans.
The French squad had led from the early game and never lost control. They chose to delay the game rather than risk any errors and while it took them over 40 minutes to end, they secured victory to claim their first 2-0 week of the season.
Fnatic vs SK Gaming
Fnatic, meanwhile, took on SK Gaming in the next game. The summer finalists started strong, getting a 2K gold lead in the opening minutes and a pre-15 minutes ace.
SK tried to fight back and 20 minutes in attempted to secure the Baron, but Fnatic won the fight 4v5 and took the objective.
The game ended some six minutes later with a big teamfight near the SK base, where Elias "Upset" Lipp led his team for an ace, leading to a victory and sole fourth place for Fnatic.
G2 Esports vs Misfits
After their win against Rogue on Friday, G2 faced an easier foe in Misfits and they showed their class. Despite having a scaling composition, they won a big teamfight just 16 minutes in and with that, they took over the game.
Misfits’ split-push composition never got off the ground and while they were able to delay the game, G2 still got the win with a fancy Twisted Fate backdoor play.
Rogue vs MAD Lions
The day ended with a showdown between Rogue and MAD Lions. The Spanish team had the initial advantage with three early kills and the first three drakes, though good tower control let Rogue stay close in gold.
The game seemed to be decided after MAD secured an early ocean soul, but great teamfighting by Rogue saw them win fight after fight, eventually taking the game after an ace 36 minutes in.
