Who is Akshan According to LoL Lore?

Akshan was once a young boy, raised on the streets in Marwi, an eastern Shuriman city. While most people minded their own business, Akshan couldn’t let any bad deeds go unpunished. Of course, this behavior made him many enemies as well.

He was nearly beaten to death one day and left for dead in the streets of Marwi. Fortunately, he was saved by Shadya, an older woman who turned out to be part of the sentinel order. She noticed that Akshan had both guts and a conscience and decided to take the boy in.

She told him that he would get to live with her if he learned the ways of the order of the sentinels, and she began to train him. Akshan grew up, but with time, he noticed how Shadya grew distant.

Eventually, she explained that a great Harrowing was coming, and it was their job as sentinels to stop this calamity that would befall Runeterra. Their only hope was to find the ancient sentinel weapons that laid buried within Shurima's crypts and tombs.

Once found, the tomb was empty – already plundered by local warlords. No pleading and convincing from Shadya swayed their heart though, and they had to make due with the weapons they had.

As they looked through their small arsenal, Akshan found a curious-looking weapon. He was enamored with it, but when he tried to take it, the weapon was quickly snatched from him, Shadya telling him never to use it.

Even though Shadya forbade him from using the weapon, his curiosity grew, and he continued to pry into its history, only to find out that all those years ago when he’d been dying in the street, being beaten to death, Shdaya had used it to save him, killing his assailant and bringing Akshan back to life.

The gun had revived him, but why was he allowed to be revived, while others had to die and suffer?

While Akshan continued to pry into the weapons' history, Shadya tried to get the warlords to hand over the weapons in vain. Tensions between the two parties built until one tragic day Akshan returned home to find Shadya murdered in the street, almost exactly where he had fallen all those years ago.

It was at that moment that Akshan took the weapon by the name of ‘Absolver’ and swore to avenge his mentor, and thus, the Rogue Sentinel was born.

Is Akshan a Marksman According to LoL Lore?

Akshan's champion lore doesn’t specifically state which weapon he liked to use before finding the Absolver. Though, it does state that he made a few adjustments to it before going off to avenge Shadya, so it could be that he added the hook function to it.

In League of Legends, Akshan is a mid-range marksman for the mid lane, so we think that even though it isn’t outright stated in his champion lore, he probably prefers to use guns and other long-ranged weapons as well.

What Ethnicity is Akshan According to LoL Lore?

Akshan is from Shurima according to his champion lore. He is from the eastern part of Shurima and is heavily influenced by Southeast-Asian culture, which we can tell from his aesthetic and his voice acting.

Riot has stated that they want to make more diverse champions inspired from different cultures, so it’s interesting to see how they incorporated south-east Asian culture into Akshan’s champion design.
