If you are playing League of Legends on an older Computer, you might have to upgrade soon. Riot Games is planning some big changes for the older operating systems.
League of Legends has been out for 14 year now. With a lifespan that long, it went through multiple iterations of clients and systems just to be enjoyed by the most people possible. With better software and hardware, the game needs updating, though. These updates are supposed to bring a more stable and more convenient experience to the users and servers of the game.
Riot Games Stops Supporting Some Operating Systems
In the new LoL Dev Video, Riot Games have confirmed that in February 2024 the old operating systems Windows 7, 8 and Windows 8.1 will not be supported anymore.
This means every player that still uses those systems will not be able to run the game anymore. If you are affected by this, your only option is to upgrade to a newer operating system before February. There are just not enough people using the older versions to continue supporting them.
These Updates are critical for allowing us to continue to improve the stability and performance of League. While we want to ensure League is accessible as possible to as many players as possible, at some point, continuing to support legacy operating systems that very few players are still using heavily limits our ability to serve the vast majority of the player base. - Riot Studio Leader Andrei Van Roon
The only supported operating systems will be Windows 10 and Windows 11.
