Riot Releases Official Nilah Trailer

Riot just released their official Nilah trailer, and it seems like the leaks about her abilities were somewhat correct. Check out the trailer down below:

She looks even more annoying and busted than we thought. Her W looks like something she can cast on herself and instead of an arena, her ulti seems to be like Bel'Veth’s E. We can't wait for more details, are you hyped yet?

What Are Nilah's Abilities?

BigBadBear leaked a first look at Nilah's abilities, and we are hyped. She sounds super complex and definitely gives us a first feel, for her as a melee bot laner, and how she will deal with her ranged opposition. Just know, these are all leaks and are subject to change, but this will give us a first glance at her play style. So, let's dive right into her Kit:

AbilityDescription
Passive: Iridescent InertiaNilah's base attack speed scaling is verry low (.3), but it increases on hit up to 6 stacks. Excess attack speed above the cap is converted into additional on-hit damage.
Q: Nacre SlashPassive: Upon casting an ability, Nilah's next three attacks deal bonus damage. The third attack's bonus damage is doubled, and refunds 50% of her Q ability's cooldown.

Active: Nilah dashes a short distance in the target direction before empowering her next attack to strike twice and damage nerby enemies in a wide arc shape centered on her target. The second strike instead marks all enemies hit, and them damages them after a brief delay. The second strike's damage increases based on the number of enemy champions marked.

W: Tide BaubleNilah throws a water orb in the target direction. Upon hitting an enemy or terrain, it detonates, damaging and slowing enemies and creating a cloud of slowing mist that extends around all enemies and terrain hit by the initial explosion. Lasts up to 10 seconds, but dissipates 4 second after the first allied champion enters its bound. Enemies are unable to auto attack champions inside the mist.
E: Reluctant FriendshipNilah extends her whip in the target direction, tethering herself to the first enemy hit for up to 4 seconds. Tether breaks upon going further than 1000 units.

Recast 1: Nilah commands her whip to extend out from the thered enemy's position in the target direction. If it hits another enemy or pice of terrain, a second tether is formed between the two targets, granting Nilah a second recast.

Recast 2: Tap-cast to pull the tethered targets into each other, damaging and slowing all enemies they pass through. If both enemies are champions, they are also stunned on collision. Hold-cast to also cause Nilah to pull herself to the first tethered enemy.

Ulti: Promise of the OceanNilah channels, creating a cicular-shaped elastic arena in the target area, lasting 7 seconds, or until she exits its bounds. Nilah can attack anything inside the arena regardless of range. Enemies that attempt to exit the arena will be pushed back inside (can only happen once to each enemy). The arena's walls act as terrain for the purposes of her W and E abilities. As long as Nilah remains inside the arena, she gains bonus movement speed and ignores unit collision.

The leak also stated that Nilah will have a range of 400, which as I previously suggested makes sense, given her whip. So she won't be a true melee champion, just very short ranged for an ADC. But don't her abilities just sound insane? Her W just sounds super obnoxious and will make a lot of people rage. Combine that with her ulti, so the enemies can't escape, and I can't see her loosing any 1v1 fight. Her E is one of those super insane 200 IQ outplay abilities that sound super flashy and will probably make some great montage clips.

We don't know if these abilities will remain the ones in her final version, but she does sound insanely cool to play and watch, and if the release version is somewhat close to this one, we have a real treat awaiting us. Her high skill gap, should make her difficult to learn, but the same could be said about Aphelios and Zeri, and we know how broken those two were at launch.

If you want some visual elements to go with the abilities, then check out BigBadBear's YouTube Video. He created some simple animations that will help you visualize her abilities.

What Does Nilah Look Like?

We finally have some new Nilah leaks to share. In fact, we got to see what the new champion will look like. BigBadBear shared a first look of the new champion in one of his most recent Twitter posts.

Not gonna lie, she does look kinda sick. Nilah kind of resembles a lot of different champions at once, a Mr. Potato Head of League of Legends champions. Looking at her, I definitely get why she's getting a Star Guardian skin, just seems to fit perfectly. The weapon of choice is also an interesting one. At first look, it looks like a sword, until you realize that it's a whip, which might suggest, that she does have some range. Even though she may be a melee champion, her auto attacks could have some range on them, even if it's tiny.

Being a melee bot laner is tricky, which suggests that she will be very mobile, and looking at her cybernetic leg, that doesn't seem like a too far leap. Hopefully, she'll land on the PBE soon, where we can give her a try. After finally getting a visual element, are you more hyped about Nilah?

What Do We Already Know About Nilah?

There isn't much we know about the new Bot Laner in League of Legends, but the information we have is high-quality. BigBadBear dropped the leaks about Nilah on his YouTube channel and there is a lot to be hyped about.

First of all: The name! Rolls off the tongue quite nicely, doesn't it? The origin of the name "Nilah" hasn't been determined completely, but it seems like she might be a water creature or at least living in close vicinity to it. In Arabic, "Nilah" is the name for a flower called "water hyacinth", so a close connection to water does not seem too far off.

This is a welcome change to all the void names we have been dealing with over the past few months. But what about her abilities? A nice name does not win any battles, that's for sure. There is not much known about Nilah's abilities, other than that she is going to be a melee champion.

How is she going to deal with all the crazy snipers on Bot Lane? This could be the main focus of Nilah's kit. She needs to be able to close the gap between her and the enemy ADC. Otherwise, she will be torn to shreds. Therefore, it could well be that she's going to be a very mobile champion. If she's only able to strike from close distance, controlling the distance in lane will be key for her.

When Is Nilah Going To Release?

Our new Bot Lane champion might be closer than you think! According to BigBadBear's sources, Nilah's release may only be a few weeks away! We are talking about LoL Patch 12.13 or even 12.12. That's only between 2-5 weeks!

Another indicator for a release in the near future might be the speculations about her release skin. She is most likely to receive a Star Guardian skin and guess when those are about to hit the rift? You guessed it, Patch 12.12 or 12.13 – followed by a big Star Guardian event and maybe a Nilah welcome party? We're keen to find out more!
