This LoL Preseason 2024 is going to be huge, with insane changes to items, the map and much more. So, what exactly does Riot have planned?
Riot revealed their plans for the upcoming League of Legends season and one of those changes will impact play greatly. Not too long ago, the balance and LoL preseason team revealed that they were looking into making drastic changes to mythic items.
Now, in the latest dev blog, it was confirmed that Riot truly is going to be shaking up everything and making some huge updates to the mythic items in League of Legends. So, when will these changes go live and what can you expect from the LoL Preseason 2024?
LoL Preseason 2024: Riot Want More Build Diversity
In LoL Preseason 2021, Riot added mythic items to the game. Back then, the balance team wanted to add more build diversity to the game, hence why they created the new 'mythic' classification to the League of Legends item system.
Unfortunately, the system did not work out as planned and now Riot is going to be rolling back the changes, meaning that they're actually going to remove mythic items from League of Legends completely.
This means players will be able to build things like Trinity Force alongside Infinity Edge once more. It's time for players to have a garage sale of items in their inventory once more!
The change comes after Riot realized they weren't happy with how the mythic items have landed. Earlier this year, Riot Phroxzon also explained that they wanted more build diversity in League of Legends, but felt that mythic items weren't giving players that and always built the exact same items on specific champions.
Trying to serve the needs of a bunch of different champions in class with a few Mythic items has proven to be really challenging and while it works pretty well for about half the roster the other half is left with items that don't feel really right for them or have their creativity stifled.
While the mythic item tier will be removed, the items are going to stay. Riot is going to make a few adjustments to them, to align them with other legendary items and then release them onto the PBE for the preseason and live servers when LoL Season 14 kicks off.
So, it took riot almost four years to decide to remove mythic items once more. Is this a good decision? We will see once LoL Season 14 kicks off, eh?
