With Arcane’s release and the massive success that followed, Riot confirmed that they will be making more League of Legends cinematic content in the future.
Did you watch Arcane? No? Wow, what kind of LoL fan even are you… I bet you play Yuumi.
Anyway, you don’t have to watch Arcane to realize the massive impact it had on the entertainment industry. Everyone has been talking about the LoL-related Netflix show these past couple of days, and Riot really showed off their marketing budget with the amount of trailers and special projects… like, a Fenty Beauty Collab? Just… how?
Riot has big brains energy, and they know that they’re holding a gold mine in their hands. Now, they’ve confirmed that the next League of Legends shows are in the works, and they're even considering a live-action movie.
Shauna Spenley, global president of entertainment at Riot Games, recently did an interview with the LA Times where she said the following:
I don’t think most of Hollywood realizes how massive this is. I think that we have a huge opportunity to build amazing organic stories inside of [Runeterra], and for it to quietly build and become the IP that defines a generation. It’s going to take a little time.
You’d have to be blind not to see the potential this all has. Like I said before, Riot is a smart company, and they know that they’re currently building something akin to the MCU. Of course, the MCU is movies only and Arcane is a TV show, so we'll see if they're gonna branch into several universes stretched out over comics, TV, and movies, or if they're gonna try to combine all of it into one megaverse. In any case, they have the world for it, they have the fans for it, and they have the budget for it.
With Arcane being their first trial that clearly worked out – and is still working out – great, we doubt it’ll take a long time before we hear about the next project from Riot in regard to another show or maybe even movie this time.
Also, Riot, if you ever need ideas for a live-action movie, hit me up, Ezreal and Lux could have the best enemies to lovers stories in the history.
