League of Legends developer and publisher Riot Games took several awards during the 2021 Esports Awards ceremony this weekend. In addition to the prestigious best publisher and a best Esports game for Valorant, Riot also took the best esports broadcast and production team prize.
With most Esports seasons already over and the end of 2021 in view, this weekend's Esports Awards ceremony was a much-awaited chance to go back to the best esports moments of 2021. The awards show itself was ran live in Arlington, Texas, featuring six hosts and over thirty categories. In a nearly four hour show, the organizers went through everything from cosplay to video production to games and personalities. In the end of the day, however, it was a very good year for Riot Games, who once more took the publisher of the year award, this time with the best esports broadcast.
Several other figures related to League of Legends received recognition as well. LEC hostess Eefje "Sjokz" Depoortere got her second award for host of the year, after taking one the year before. Despite the difficult situation with the pandemic resulting in most Riot events played only online or without a live audience, Sjokz was a big part of the growing popularity of the LEC. The European LoL esports team saw another prize, this time going to LEC analyst and former pro player Marc Robert "Caedrel" Lamont. Caedrel, who retired from Excel Esports in 2020 to join Riot Games, won the prize for best analyst for his work on the LEC team. LCK interviewer and Korizon founder Kang "Ashley Kang" Ji-hye, meanwhile, won the the award for Esports content creator of the year after yet another year where she got key interviews and analysis for the LCK.
