Song of Nunu has been revealed, with Riot even confirming a 2022 release date.
Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story has been officially unveiled by Riot Forge, and will follow the story of Nunu, Willump, and Lissandra. There is not a huge amount known about the project yet, as it has only just been revealed, but we can say that it will release in 2022.
Apparently it's time to "Explore the rich world of the Freljord", according to the Riot Games website. It also seems that this exploration will be happening sooner than we might have expected, with a pretty surprising 2022 release date. We wouldn't have expected this to be the case, seeing as Hextech Mayhem only just dropped, and there have been some problems with the upcoming Ruined King.
What is Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story?
Song of Nunu is set in the world of Freljord, and will be a single-player adventure developed by Tequila Works. The game's description sounds pretty cool, with the game's website advertising an "extraordinary" world to explore, and some adorable-looking characters to get to know. The description reads as follow:
In this single-player adventure, venture into the idyllic but treacherous world of the Freljord as Nunu, a young boy on a quest to find his lost mother. Unearth the secrets, myths, and legends buried deep in the frozen tundra alongside your best friend, a wise and playful yeti named Willump, and unfold an inspiring story one puzzle at a time.
The game is being developed by Tequila Works, who also developed RiME, and will offer a brand new lens to view the League of Legends universe through. It advertises a massive new world, a brand new legends, and an emotional story. Are you sold yet? Here's the trailer...
In Nunu, you will be playing a little child who is simply looking for his mother. It's supposed to be a very small-scale story within the grand scale of the Runeterra universe, and a beautiful departure from what we have seen with other League of Legends stories.
Your best friend, Willump, can make all sorts of changes to the environment using his various different elemental skills. These will be used for environmental-based puzzles. The world looks really gorgeous and the whole thing looks to be a very sweet and cuddly little adventure from the universe that League of Legends built.
When and Where is Song of Nunu Coming Out?
Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and gog.com, at some point in 2022. It is being developed by Tequila Works, and published by Riot Forge, which is a subsidiary of Riot Games, the developers behind League of Legends.
The whole thing looks very adorable, and something the kiddies will certainly enjoy. The gameplay reminds us a bit of some more platformer-based games like Super Mario or even Skylanders back in the day. It could be a whole lot of fun, so we're crossing our fingers and hoping that it doesn't get delayed like Ruined King was.
