The spring champions lost their second game of the week, this time against an aggressive and creative MAD Lions who retain their joint pole position after week 5. Is this the new LEC elite?

After a loss to Origen, G2 Esports faced one of the current leaders of the LEC standings - MAD Lions. The former rookies were on a long undefeated streak and G2 was one of the only two teams so far to hand them a loss this season, way back in week 1.

This time, however, the lions quickly went on the offence, taking a series of kills with early tower dives and growing their lead throughout the early game. 15 minutes in, G2 punished a dive that went a bit too far and got two kills. Still, MAD were already well ahead and soon took an early third drake that put their opponents on a timer. Around the 20 minute mark an aggressive arcane shift by Luka "Perkz" Perković’s Ezreal left him exposed to an engage that resulted in three kills and the Baron for MAD, who picked the cloud soul after another fight in their favor some three minutes later.

The former rookies knew they had their rivals on the ropes and 26 minutes in, Zhiqiang "Shad0w" Zhao did not hesitate as he went in with a virtuoso Lee Sin play that forced Perkz to flash away and secured a kill for his team, leading to a second Baron for MAD. With it, they cornered G2 around their base and 29 minutes in, a catch on the enemy top laner triggered the fight where they routed them and won the game. With this victory, MAD remain tied with Rogue for first place and tie the head-to-head record with G2 at one win apiece. For G2, meanwhile, his is their sixth loss of the split, leaving them tied for sixth. While they will start next week’s games with a match against the struggling FC Schalke 04, this is not a match they can afford to lose - especially as then they will have to face off against a dominant Rogue team.
