Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.07 Not Coming Until March, According to CDPR Developer

An anonymous CD Projekt Red developer has made comments regarding Cyberpunk 2077’s launch, and the state of the development team in recent weeks. With the hugely anticipated first big update due out in early-January, the alleged employee has claimed that it is unlikely we will see such a release until March.

Despite of statements made by CD Projekt Red (CDPR), an alleged developer is casting aspersions on the potential of Patch 1.07 being launched in the expected early-January window. Initially, it was anticipated that the patch would come to the game in the first week of January, but with the end of the week rapidly approaching, the dev’s words may be starting to ring true.

The update is expected to bring vast quality-of-life improvements, including bug fixes and general stability patches to a game that has garnered hugely negative publicity since its launch. Nearly a month ago, Cyberpunk 2077 dropped with a plethora of bugs and glitches that have made the game near-unplayable on last-gen consoles, and a delay to Patch 1.07 would be bad news for the embattled developer.

“The first two patches should come out mid-March, despite what’s been said by top execs... Devs are hearing plans of a ‘No Man’s Sky’ style comeback due for late June.”

If what is being claimed here is true, we may be hearing from CDPR in the coming days or weeks regarding delays to planned fixes. This will have a hugely negative impact on consumers, investors, and well, everybody involved. We’re frustrated, gamers are frustrated, and we can’t imagine what it must be like for the Devs themselves.

It seems that CDPR intends to make a comeback, but devs are warning of mass exoduses from the studio as development staff become increasingly overworked and frustrated by what seems to be one of the biggest scandals in gaming history.

As of writing, CDPR is yet to respond to any request for comment sent by EarlyGame. Very little has been released in terms of public disclosures or press statements since the game was removed from the PlayStation Store more than two weeks ago. This has put gamers, and gaming outlets like ourselves, in a tough spot.

Not much has been revealed about what is going on behind the scenes over at CDPR, but rumors circle around the role of management in the games disastrous launch-state, and the multitude of missing features.

“I believe it was due to miscommunication, and leads not setting goals like they should. The game was jumbled together for 2019’s E3, [and] the last dev comp before the scrap was 160GB alone. There should be some whistleblowing in the coming weeks if they step down.”

The shocking thing about what is revealed by this anonymous developer is that it makes it plainly clear that – if the source is correct – that the game had many interesting features scrapped by management because “they weren’t feeling it”. What’s more, it is revealed that CDPR may have “hurt themselves to keep investors safe and sound”.

With investor and class-action lawsuits circling, and Sony Japan “especially furious”, CDPR is in a tight spot as it continues to scramble towards some kind of salvation. With Update 1.07 potentially months away, this could be a long time coming, and begs the question: is it too little, too late?

Offering a little bit of sunshine in a very cavernous situation, the source shed a bit of optimism in this regard.

“It might sound weird, but the disaster launch was actually something beneficial, from our perspective. A cold shower sets priorities straight and so we're able to resume work on what was originally intended without having those f***ers breathing down our necks to publish.”

Perhaps CDPR’s story could be cause for some hope here. It could be a lesson for future developers not to rush out ambitious games purely to meet release obligations, rather than high product standards. Executives may see from the lawsuits and CDPR’s terrible reputational blow, that the risks are a little too high, and their standards have been a lot too low.

Only time will tell, but we will continue our attempts to reach out to developers to get inside scoops, and will try to make better sense of the situation over at CDPR. Cyberpunk 2077’s best days may be yet to come – we certainly hope so. The story that needs to be told, however, is that of those who are working tirelessly behind the scenes.
