Since last year, we have known that The Last of Us Part 2 would not be our final outing with Ellie and Joel. That's because it had already been announced that an HBO series would be coming to The Last of Us universe! We don't know the release day for the show yet, but we have finally found out who will play Joel and Ellie in the series. Drum roll...
Okay, that was kind of pointless – we gave it away in the headline. It's none other than Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who will play Joel and Ellie respectively. Recognize the names? Well, that's not so surprising – they both starred in Game of Thrones!
Honestly, could anyone think of a better case than this? Pedro Pascal in particular is the perfect choice, after proving what he's capable of as the main character in the Mandalorian! Bella Ramsey is also guaranteed to do a great job as Ellie, as the 17-year-old definitely has what it takes.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's characters from Game of Thrones have become real fan favorites. And as Ellie and Joel, we expect nothing less, even if some fans would have loved to see Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the role of Joel. There were plenty of great options - we would have been happy to see Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen, known from Logan, as well.
Incidentally, the series is being co-developed by The Last of Us writer and director, Neil Druckmann, and is primarily intended to retell the plot of the first game. So, we can expect a young, naïve Ellie and a cynical Joel, who still has to come to terms with the loss of his daughter. We are very excited! Sadly, this HBO series adaptation of The Last of Us still doesn't have it's release date confirmed.
