It’s Friday and this is EarlyGame, which means one thing: Time for Industry Intel, the weekly segment about the state of the video game industry and all the money that’s changing hands.

Today we have niche games doing great and massive block-busters doing... less so.

CDPR Sued By Investors… Again

It seems impossible to have an Industry Intel without some Cyberpunk 2077 in it, but what can we say: the game is way too big and it seems that its financials affect the entire industry as a whole. This week, the news is far from good for the Polish though: Investors have launched another lawsuit against developer CD Projekt Red, alleging the game maker mislead them about the state of the game. The studio has denied the accusations and has claimed that it will “undertake vigorous action to defend itself against any such claims”.

Scott Pilgrim’s Physical Release Shatters Records

Limited Run Games, the boutique UK company that produces fancy physical editions of smaller indie games, is happy about the release of Scott Pilgrim. According to founder Douglas Bogart, the Nintendo Switch version of the cult classic game sold over 40k copies, pretty much instantly beating the company’s previous record-holder. More than half of them were sold in the first 3 hours alone. Limited Run Games will continue to sell Scott Pilgrim in the next six weeks and, according to the version you select, a nice little boxed version will set you back between $35 and $140.

Battle.net Completely Reworked

This week, Blizzard Entertainment announced major changes to their hub/online store/social space Battle.net. The new version of the program will introduce new features, such as tools for favoring and rearranging the games library, as well as advanced social features. According to a LinkedIn post, a team has been working for the past 2 years to make this happen.

The fancy new app isn’t available everywhere just yet, but it is expected to hit your screen in the next few weeks. It’s interesting to see how many fans will love the new look and how many will complain simply because it’s different. We’ll find out soon enough!

If you would like to find out more about the video game business, tune in next Friday for another EarlyGame Industry Intel!

Everybody is on their esports & gaming thing now, but who lets you customize your experience, offers exclusive raffles and has no ads? That’s right: MyEarlyGame does.
