The next expansion to The Elder Scrolls Online has just received a new cinematic trailer! Blackwood is the next major expansion to hit the popular MMORPG, and it will be part of the Gates of Oblivion series, a super cool set of expansions that will explore a new story, set before the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Well, we might not be getting The Elder Scrolls VI for a little while, but if you swap around the 'V' and the 'I' in that title, then you'll get The Elder Scrolls IV, and that's exactly where the next ESO expansion will take place. If that joke was a little convoluted for you, here's the latest trailer for the Blackwood Expansion.

And you're going to call our joke convoluted? Well, actually, that was a pretty amazing trailer, juxtaposed with the pretty s**t joke that we just made. So, joke's on us? Anyway, the trailer featured some pretty great action, as you would expect from a cinematic trailer.

The thing about cinematic trailers for The Elder Scrolls Online is that... the game is never going to look that good, but it will still play super f**king well. We have been solidly grinding this MMORPG since the day it came out, and have seen it flourish into exactly the sort of thing we always wanted – Skyrim with friends.

Now, with 2020 officially behind us, and 2021 pulling the reigns back in, the series is going back to one of its roots. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion came, as the name suggests, before The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and was set in Cyrodiil, a fictional province in the Tamriel, which is a fictional continent in the fictional game. That was a mouthful, lucky I am not saying anything.

Anyway, this new expansion is going to be set before the events of Oblivion and, frankly, it looks pretty f**king awesome. Will it live up to 2017's Morrowind expansion? Well, that's yet to be seen, but seeing as Morrowind was absolutely fantastic, our hopes – and expectations – are pretty damn high. Check out the Official Announcement Trailer!

As with most MMORPG's, you gotta have a posse to play with. You gotta grind for that loot, delve into those dark dungeons, share at those taverns. Well, if you are a poor lonely soul, jump onto our Discord and meet some other humanities! We'd love to play with you. If you have lonely friends... you should probably play with them, but if you don't want to, let them know that we exist. Oh, and you're a terrible friend.

Anyhow, these trailers are super exciting, and the first expansion, ‘Blackwood’, is due out on June 1 for PC and Stadia, and June 8 for PS4 and Xbox One. We have loved what The Elder Scrolls Online has been doing these last few years, so we absolutely can't wait to jump back into the awesome world from Oblivion. What more could we have asked for?
