At a Pokémon Presents, Nintendo announced not one but two new Pokémon games! Both are set in the Sinnoh region but are quite different. Here's all the info on Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Radiant Diamond, and Shining Pearl!

Nintendo is always good for a surprise lately. First the sudden Nintendo Direct, then a virtual Pokémon concert (happening this Saturday, by the way), a remake of Pokémon Snap, and now two new Pokémon games! The announcement was made during the 20-minute Pokémon Presents, which you can watch again in full.

Pokémon: Shining Diamond & Pokémon: Shining Pearl

This title is an HD remake of the 2007 classic set in the Sinnoh region. It follows the originals but it's presented in a new engine and looks simply fantastic!

In Radiant Diamond, you'll encounter the legendary Pokémon Dialga, and in Shining Pearl, you'll be able to catch the legendary Pokémon Palkia. The game is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch in late 2021.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Arceus is also set in the Sinnoh region but takes a completely different approach. It's an open-world game! How cool is that? This game could set a whole new standard for the Pokémon series. For many fans, an open game world is exactly what Pokémon desperately needed!

You'll be able to freely explore the game world and encounter Pokémon everywhere. Then we still have to hit them properly with a Pokéball (Pokémon GO sends its regards) and catch them. In terms of visuals, it's a bit more retro, but that's not a problem. On the contrary, it looks really good!

Pokémon Legends: Arceus also sticks to old traditions. You have the choice of three starter Pokémon - Bauz, Feurigel, or Ottaro - and can once again go on the search for the Pokémon of the region in the world. The release date for Pokémon Legends: Arceus on the Switch is early 2022, so we'll have to be patient for this title.

If I had to choose one of the two games, I would definitely pick Arceus. Pokémon in an open game world just sounds too good to be true! It would be the perfect new entry for people like me who haven't played every part but are somehow Pokémon fans at heart.
