Last night it was that time again. After an eternity - and yes, more than 500 days is really an eternity - there was FINALLY a Nintendo Direct again! A whole 50 minutes full of announcements and reveals, sometimes more and sometimes less interesting, Nintendo has offered us. But what was shown?
Don't worry, you don't have to watch the whole presentation again in full length. We're here for you, bringing you up to speed by summarizing the most important announcements from yesterday's Nintendo Direct. Let's-a go!
Pyra and Mythra Come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Not one, no, two new characters are coming as DLC to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate! Nintendo opened the Direct with a trailer for their popular fighting game and revealed that Pyra and Mythra from the RPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are the new fighters. The two swordswomen appear as duo fighters and can alternate in the middle of a fight, allowing you to switch between Pyra and Mythra. Cool mechanic! Anime fans get their fan service on with not one but two Big Tiddie Anime Waifus...
Fall Guys is Coming to Nintendo Switch!
For a long time, only PlayStation and PC players could enjoy Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout! Those days are over - starting this summer, Switch players can also enjoy Fall Guys on their favorite console! Nintendo brings the fun Battle Royale with its mini-games to its platform. Honestly, Fall Guys fits pretty well on the Switch, after all, Nintendo knows its way around mini-games. We can already see the Mario costume in Fall Guys ahead.
More Gameplay on Monster Hunter Rise - and Monster Hunter Switch!
The Nintendo Direct showed more on the latest installment in the Monster Hunter series, which will be released soon. More monsters, more battle gameplay, more on the story. You really don't have to wait much longer, because Monster Hunter Rise will be released on March 26 for the Nintendo Switch. Not only that, but there will also be a special Monster Hunter Switch in the game's design, as well as a Switch Pro controller also adorned with a Monster Hunter design - and they're both coming out on the same day!
New Mario Golf Game: Mario Golf Super Rush!
We already have Mario Kart on the Switch, we have Mario Party, we have Mario Tennis... What's still missing? That's right, Mario Golf! But that's about to change! Nintendo has revealed a new game in the series, which will be released on June 25 on the Nintendo Switch. In Mario Golf Super Rush, you can expect classic Mario Golf, as you are used to from previous parts. But new modes are also added, such as the fun Speed Golf mode. Here you don't alternate shots like in a normal round of golf, but you compete to see who can sink the ball into the hole first. There are motion controls, too, if you feel like it! Ah, it brings back memories of golf in Wii Sports!
Miitopia is ported to the Switch
Miitopia is crazy, Miitopia is weird but it's coming to the Switch. The Nintendo 3DS game, which was released in Japan in 2016 and then worldwide in 2017, is getting a port. Remember those Miis that were new and hot back in the Wii days? You can use the Mii avatars of you, your friends, and your family and give them specific roles in this RPG - even the villain! Or you can take on the role of the hero and save the world!
Animal Crossing update with Super Mario items
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is regularly updated with new content. On the occasion of the still ongoing 35th anniversary of Super Mario, items from the Mushroom Kingdom are now added. Dress up as Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Co. and decorate your island with mushrooms, ?-blocks, and other items from the Mario franchise - the update will be released on February 25, i.e. in one week!
Project Triangle Strategy: New RPG from Square Enix!
Square Enix are the masters when it comes to RPGs. The makers of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest already landed a hit on the Nintendo Switch with Octopath Traveler - and now a game has been announced that is very reminiscent of Octopath with its graphic style. So far, it's known by the working title Project Triangle Strategy and is still in development. It's scheduled for release in 2022, but a demo is already available to gather feedback from fans.
Hyrule Warriors: Expansion Pass
It was clear that this was coming: Nintendo is expanding Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity with DLC! Two DLC packs will be released later this year, bringing new characters, new missions, and new enemies to the Zelda spinoff game. The first pack is set to arrive in June, with the second following in November.
The Legend of Zelda: No Breath of the Wild 2, but Skyward Sword HD Remake
Towards the end of the Direct, there was some fodder for The Legend of Zelda fans. Not only the DLC for Hyrule Warriors but also a new game. Bad news: It wasn't about Breath of the Wild 2! There's still no news on that. Seems like we have to expect a release next year. To tide us over, there's a remake of Skyward Sword instead, which was released for the Wii U in 2011. In HD... although it really doesn't look like it! The graphics don't really look HD-like or good so it's a bit of a letdown.
Splatoon 3 Announcement!
At the end of the Direct, Nintendo announced the third installment of Splatoon coming to the Nintendo Switch next year. Pretty surprising considering Splatoon 2 already exists on the Switch. We're very curious to see what Splatoon 3 has to offer that would make a new game worthwhile instead of continuing to provide Splatoon 2 with new content.
Those were the most important announcements of yesterday's Nintendo Direct. Hopefully, there were a few reveals for you too!
