Dreamhack Anaheim was the latest tournament in the Fortnite competitive scene and after a magnificent last game, 15-year old Martin "MrSavage" Foss Andersen lifted the cup.

After a long hiatus, the competitive Fortnite scene is coming back to America with the Dreamhack Anaheim tournament. Its winner, the 15-year old Martin "MrSavage" Foss Andersen, had a breakout performance in the last game that made all the difference

The tournament was a “Bring your own computer” event that lasted throughout the weekend. Anyone with a computer of their own could try to make it through the two entry heats, with the top 400 going to a closed qualifying round and the 100 best players making it to the grand final. With a total of $250,000 on the line and a solid $30K for the winner, it was a very respectable tournament - but Mr.Savage was about to make it more than just that.

A final push

It was a hard start for the young Norwegian, who had little luck with some of the early chests. Yet he persevered and, with one game to go, had a comfortable position near the top: he led the charts in eliminations for an overall second place, 10 points behind in overall score to Timothy "Bizzle" Miller. He could have played it safe, taken no risks and secured a pretty good payday - but MrSavage chose differently. Instead of playing conservatively, the newly signed 100Thieves player decided to show just how good he was. One Victory Royale later, in which he single-handedly dispatched the last four other remaining players - and another five to boot - he not only won the cup and the cash prize, but he left his mark on the entire event.

The new superstar

Others were quick to notice. Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, 100 Thieves founder and owner, was ecstatic, congratulating the young player - who joined the organization just earlier this week. Meanwhile, 2019 Fortnite World Cup winner Kyle “Bugha” Giesdorf was rather less reserved:

“Savage, you can’t die - RPG, RPG - Savage!” he shouted ecstatically on stream as MrSavage got the last elimination with an RPG shot.

The win did not overwhelm the Norwegian, who looked far more mature than one might expect of a 15-year old pro gamer. “I'm just really happy all my hard work has paid off. I've been playing a lot over the past year trying to really improve,” he said. “I feel like it's been really well-organized and it's been really fun.”

The fun does not have to end, however. After the event, Martin stated he already looks forward to the next tournament Fortnite publisher Epic Games announces and he plans to attend it too. Let us hope 100 Thieves’ newest star has plenty more planned for us!
