We've already talked about Kaldheim and its mechanics in detail. But now Wizards has released even more exciting news. In their State of the Game article from January 21, they confirmed that just in time for the Kaldheim release, the beta version of the Android client will also be launched.

We've been making memes about it for a long time, but now the time has finally come: MTG Arena Mobile is coming to Android devices!

First things first:

  • The Android beta client will hit the stores on January 28
  • You will use the same account as on the computer - we think that's awesome!
  • Cross-platform play is supported

Interface

But how will the whole thing look like?

  • To suit mobile screens, most icons are much more rectangular than on a PC. Instagram is you? Player avatars have been relegated to the left corners.
  • As on the PC, you click on each zone to zoom in. When mulliganing, cards are drawn from your hand to the library, just like in competitor Blizzard.

The hand cards are reduced in size and hidden during the game. As soon as you click on them, the cards fan out and you can use them easily. Unless you have bad sausage fingers. When you click on the field again, the cards shrink. To get more detailed information about a card, simply select it and stay on it for a long time. The game will also automatically zoom in/out depending on what is happening in the game.

You can either add mana yourself or use the handy auto-tap function. This feature in particular is extremely handy. If you want to switch to full control mode, you just have to stay on your avatar for a long time. For people like us who constantly make mistakes, there's an undo button in the top right corner.

Deckbuilding

You don't have to change much when deckbuilding. All features of the PC client will also be available on the cell phone. The only thing you will have to do without is your sideboard in draft events. A tolerable downer.

Roadmap

In development are, besides the next set Strixhaven, iOS and tablet support, a version of the Android client that also runs on weaker devices, and the Historic Anthology 4. Yeah cool, we're up for it! By the way, 5 standard sets are planned for 2021. Well, if that will be something... Better quality than quantity Wizards!
