A tweet by the Esports Championship Series' (ECS) pretty much confirmed the series' own abolition.
The demise of ECS and the birth of a new league
The message simply reads "A new CS:GO league. Coming March 2020." and is accompanied by a list of notable CS:GO analysts and commentators, presumably the talent pool for the upcoming league.
Multiple sources have suggested that FACEIT is looking to put ECS behind and create a new league format, formally known as B Site among the CS:GO community. The talent pool and indicative launch date are the only proper info given on the subject, but at this point, it appears the whispers will turn out correct and ECS will be no more.
The Electronic Championship Series' history consists of eight seasons spread across four years – from 2016 until 2019. Astralis are by far the most successful team in the competition, taking half of the trophies home to Denmark. G2, SK Gaming, FaZe Clan and Team Vitality all won a single trophy while Team Liquid are the only organization to lose twice in the final.
The new league will be driven forward by some of the best analytical talent around. Though no roles were released and we don't know exactly who's going to do what, the list of names is of such quality that it doesn't even matter.
Here's who we're going to see and hear in FACEIT's new project:
- Duncan "Thorin" Shields
- Auguste "Semmler" Massonnat
- Sean "seang@res" Gares
- Christopher "MonteCristo" Mykles
- Anders Blume — Caster
- Jason "moses" O'Toole — Caster
- Daniel "ddk" Kapadia — Caster
- James Bardolph — Caster
- Freya Spiers
The B Site project is supposedly going to run at the exact same time as ESL's Pro League, at last bringing the long-standing rivalry to a real head-to-head battle for teams, talent and viewership. This should be fun!
